Job Summary
The Sterile Process Technician II is responsible for preparing and assembling medical and surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment with an advanced level of skill and expertise. This role ensures compliance with sterilization and decontamination protocols and assists in maintaining the sterile processing areas. The Sterile Process Technician II supports department operations by performing quality assurance tasks, serving as a resource to junior staff, and contributing to process improvements in sterile processing services.
Essential Functions
Follows established protocols for cleaning, decontaminating, preparing, packaging, disinfecting or sterilizing, and storing medical and surgical supplies and equipment, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.
Assembles complex or specialized instrument trays and sets, ensuring accuracy and readiness for surgical procedures.
Distributes medical and surgical supplies to appropriate areas within the facility, ensuring timeliness and proper documentation.
Monitors, interprets, and documents results of physical, chemical, and biological indicators for sterilization processes, identifying and addressing potential issues.
Operates all equipment used in sterile processing, including sterilizers and decontamination units, and performs routine maintenance as needed.
Assists in improving the quality of sterile processing services by identifying process gaps and contributing to corrective actions or workflow enhancements.
Provides guidance and support to Sterile Process Technician I staff, ensuring adherence to protocols and offering on-the-job training when needed.
Conducts quality control checks on sterilized instruments and equipment, addressing deficiencies or escalating issues to leadership.
Ensures proper inventory management by restocking and replenishing supplies and maintaining accurate logs for usage, expiration dates, and testing results.
Adheres to standard precautions, including the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE), to maintain a safe work environment and prevent the spread of infection.
Maintains privacy and confidentiality of health information in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
Obtains a minimum of 10 hours of continuing education annually to remain current on sterile processing practices and technologies.
Performs other duties as assigned.

General Summary: The central supply technician is responsible for processing, maintaining and organization instruments, equipment and supplies used in surgery. Functional knowledge of various methods used to clean, sterilize and package instruments and surgical supplies. Basic knowledge of aseptic technique. Knowledge of instrument names and ability to recognize malfunctioning instructions and equipment. Knowledge of chemicals used to clean and process instruments and surgical supplies.
Process instruments according to policy, ensuring sterility and cleanliness at all times, documenting as required
Organizes sets according to instrument list; dates and signs as indicated.
Maintains set lists and updates as determined by Clinical Manager.
Manages the flow of instruments in the instrument rooms ( clean, dirty, and storage) under the Clinical Nurse Manager.
Ensures daily and weekly cleaning of sterilizers and washer-sterilizer.
Operates autoclave, washer-sterilizer any other equipment necessary to process instruments.
Reports any malfunctioning equipment or instruments immediately to Clinical Nurse manager.
Ensures that items necessary for surgery are sterilized and available for use in a timely manner.
Keeps abreast of the flow of cases and needs of the surgeon and staff while surgeries are in process and organizes work accordingly.
Assist with O.R. turnovers as needed and able.

May assist in the operating room for cleaning, prepping, turn over or assistance during a case as needed.
Maintains sterilization records according to established procedure.
Responsible for ensuring all appropriate biological test are completed daily on flash sterilizers and Steris units.
Ensures flash records are completed and reports problematic areas to the Clinical Nurse Manager.
Assists with obtaining special instruments, sets and equipment as necessary from off-site.
Follows special request to assist others as determine by Clinical Nurse Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Pulls, packs, delivers and picks up medications, supplies and basic equipment.

Responsibilities
Serves as the lead technician of the shift for all instrumentation.
Completes the shift report and verbally reports to the on-coming shift leader.
Orientates new employees to specific duties of particular shifts. Will mentor and provide guidance and training as needed and will serve as backup in the absence of the department coordinator.
Ensures that supervised staff are trained and evaluated.
Decontaminates surgical instruments according to manufacturer's instructions or advised by the department leader. Will operate all decontamination equipment including washer disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, cart washer, and automatic endoscope reprocessor (AER).
Inspects instruments after decontamination, ensuring all items are clean, intact, functional, and accounted for.
Assembles trays in a manner that ensures devise sterility and is easy for the end user to access for use. Uses count sheets to ensure trays are assembled accurately. Interfaces with the instrument tracking system for all functions of processing.
Packages or containerizes instrument sets according to manufacturer's guidelines and Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) standards. Packages in a neat and proper technique ensuring easy aseptic opening in the operating room.
Loads sterilizer carts in a way to ensure packaged items are not punctured or compromised, loads containers and wrapped goods as recommended
Runs daily sterilizer tests on all steam and low temperature sterilizers.
Operates sterilizer according to manufacturer's instruction ensuring load biological monitoring.
Documents all load contents, interfaces load to tracking system, loads cycle confirming correct parameters, monitors sterilizer to tracking system information, records all pertinent information (biological, mechanical, and chemical).
Unloads sterilizers, ensuring items are not compromised, and stores in correct location according to instrument tracking system storage locations.
Follows endoscope manufacturer's processing instructions and accepted standards/guidelines.

Qualifications
Minimum Education:
