• Performs sterilizations on the above said items

Position Summary
The Sterile Reprocessing Technician is responsible for ensuring the effective decontamination, disinfection, and sterilization of medical instruments and equipment to meet safety and quality standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare instrumentation for the decontamination process by disassembly and pre-processing.
Operate all disinfection and sterilization equipment according to manufactures' specialties
Adheres to infection control protocols, including maintenance of instruments processing logs
Assembles processed instruments
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Maintains familiarity with and abides by the Center's policies and procedures
Supports and participates in the Centers quality improvement program.
Education, Experience, Licenses, and Certifications
At least one year of experience in Sterile Processing
Graduate of Accredited Program in Sterile Processing or Approved on the Job Training with CBSPD or IAHCSMM Certification required

Job Description
• The responsibility of a sterile processing technician involves keeping the medical facility as sterile as possible by sterilizing equipment, instruments and other needed devices.
• Manually cleaning of medical instruments, equipment and surgical trays
• Performs sterilizations on the above said items
• Examines equipment and instruments as well as reports any problems
• Testing and monitoring of autoclaves
• Assembling all necessary equipment such as surgical trays
• Keeping inventory and ordering all needed sterile supplies
• Packing and storing of sterile supplies
• Setting up surgical wear (e.g. gowns, sheets, gloves, masks) for use
Qualifications
• 2+ years knowledge of sterile techniques, instrument identification, surgical procedures and equipment
• CRCST or equivalent certificate program

About the unit
This unit is a level 2 trauma center with 20 operating rooms in our Area D tower and 6 procedure rooms in our Area A suite. Approximately 45% of our cases are comprised of total joints and ortho cases. The remaining 55% of cases are comprised of General, Colon/Rectal, Urology, Bariatric, Plastic, Spine, Vascular and ENT surgeries. Troy Central Processing is a direct supporting unit for surgery. Daily, CPD produces anywhere from 450-750 instrument trays, we service the operating rooms and all the supporting ancillary units within the hospital that require the use of sterile equipment. We have two types of sterilization processes on site, high temperature steam and low temperature hydrogen peroxide and utilize state of the art equipment to ensure that our patients are provided clean, sterile instrumentation for each surgical procedure in house. Central processing is a team environment, as technicians, coordinators and central processing support staff work together to ensure that our patients, OR team and the surgeons have everything they need to have a successful surgery.

Scope of work
Responsible for inspecting, disinfecting, assembling, processing and distributing patient care instruments, equipment and supplies in accordance with established policies, procedures and Association of Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) standards. Acts as a role model and resource to peers and other members of the health care team related to processing of equipment, instruments, and supplies. Stores, rotates and ensures all instruments and supplies are correctly labeled.
