Responsibilities Surgical Services is now offering a paid 14-week Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) Internship Program for candidates interested in supporting operating room instrument processing. SPT's will learn about the importance of their role, have hands-on learning activities, and will collaborate with fellow surgical colleagues to enhance professional development and relationships. Our goal is to offer a structured program with dedicated learning time to ensure your success. Employees accepted into this program will be introduced to numerous surgical specialties during the program. Employees will meet HSPA requirements at the end of the program. The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for performing delegated activities to support the operating room team in the care of the surgical patient. Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, Core Charge RN, and Core Supervisor, the Sterile Processing Technician prepares and delivers medical/surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment for surgical procedures. The Sterile Processing Technician cleans, packages, and processes surgical equipment and instrumentation, as well as maintains inventory and storage of supplies in the core. The Sterile Processing Technician manages multiple computer applications to assist with sterilization tracking and processes. Responsible to operate and troubleshoot power equipment to process instruments (i.e. autoclaves, washer disinfector, ultrasonic cleaners). Qualifications Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) Certification as a Central Processing Technician (CRCST) within 18 months of hire. Must be 18 years of age prior to start date. Prefer two years of experience in the handling and sterilization processing of surgical/medical/dental instrumentation within the past four years, or vocational certificate as Central Service Technician or Patient Care Assistant within the last two years. Alternatively, at least two years of experience as a Central Service Technician or Patient Care Assistant in an acute care setting within the last five years. Prefer knowledge of medical terminology.     At Houston Methodist, the Endoscopy Technician II (Endo Tech) position, under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or physician, is a proficient Endo Tech responsible for providing high quality support to the gastroenterology (GI) providers and other members of the healthcare team. This position is fully competent to assist with the preparation of GI endoscopy procedures related to preparation for and assisting with turnaround activities, which include cleaning and high-level disinfection processing of endoscopes and accessory equipment. The Endo Tech II position anticipates physician needs during endoscopy procedures, assists with the clean-up of the endoscopy suite, and acts as a mentor of others in the technician role. This position works independently, exercising sound judgment and executing above average clinical skills necessary for assisting with endo-related procedures. Other duties for the Endo Tech II position include serving as a mentor to Endo Tech I's, utilizing skills and knowledge, helping to train and orient others.
