DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To be performed in accordance with RFHN Policies and Procedures * Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment, and assembles, wraps and sterilizes trays of instruments. * Understands and follows proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas. * Follows OSHA infection control guidelines and RFD infection control policies and procedures. * Maintains dental equipment in accordance with manufacturer's directions and Dental Department policy and protocol. * Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment. * Adheres to the infection control guidelines, performs weekly spore testing and maintain the sterilization log. * Sorts mismatched sets of instruments, trays, and medical equipment and makes them available for sterile processing and to dental staff to use in a timely manner. * Restocks, labels, and maintains inventory, submits requisitions, collects and distributes instruments, trays, crash carts, and facility medical equipment. * Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, monitoring supply usage and maintaining infection control standards. * Verifies that sterilization equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement, and removes defective equipment. * Maintains a clean work area. * Assists with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards. * Communicates appropriately using good interpersonal skills. * Follows established protocols for maintaining dental sterilization equipment. * Performs weekly spore testing on sterilization equipment and maintains logs. * Maintain load logs of packages sterilized, ensuring accurate tracking and documentation. * Check sterilized instruments for package integrity and sterilization status prior to storage. * Go through stored instruments to check for package integrity and packages sterilized more than 12 months ago to re-sterilize. * Other duties as assigned and requested.
