The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for performing decontamination, preparation, sterilization and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment throughout the surgery center, utilizing infection control and safety practices during all phases of the process. Life insurance, 401k, profit sharing, paid time off Requirements: What the Sterile Processing Technician will do: Operates all required equipment and machinery accurately and safely, prepares, assembles, and sterilizes instruments and supplies according to parameters of sterilization in accordance with The Department of Health, TJC, OSHA, CDC, AAMI and AORN standards. Maintains appropriate records, and monitors quality control and infection control standards. Provides asset management and support of surgical instruments and trays belonging to or consigned to the facility. Accurately handles and cares for instruments appropriately, including appropriate selection of cleaning agents, lubricants, examination for function, identification and assembly and preparation for sterilization; retrieves malfunctioning instruments and ensures repairs are completed. Correctly peel-packs supplies/instruments, wraps instruments for sterilization, inspect each instrument for use, function, completeness and cleanliness. Coordinates with Materials Dept to ensure facility sets are stocked to PAR levels. Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all TOC Surgery Center policies, procedures and standards and quality of service. Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; Communicate with operating room staff to provide required instruments. Is responsible for reporting damaged or malfunctioning equipment to Nurse Administrator and Materials Manger and follow process for replacement. Resources to nursing staff in all departments regarding responsibilities of proper sterilization techniques. Clean, set up, sterilize and distribute instruments as scheduled on each shift. Maintains records for QA and sterilization. Qualifications: Valid CRCST or CSPDT certification Knowledge of equipment function sufficient to be able to determine operational adequacy and to distinguish between operator error and equipment malfunction. Knowledge of applicable sanitary, infection control, and safety standards sufficient to be able to perform all assignments within safety parameters. Knowledge of processes, procedures, quality assurance, chemicals and medical instruments sufficient to be able to decontaminate and sterilize equipment, supplies and instruments. Ability to lift and move trays of instruments and patient care equipment, i.e., IV pumps, monitors, up to 25 lbs. Ability to perform bending, lifting, and washing using decontamination processes, which will include instrument pans, bins, trays, and carts of various sizes. Tactile differentiation, e.g. temperature, moisture. Skill and prior experience in cleaning specialized equipment.     Department: PMG Parrish Medical Group Schedule/Status: 8:00am-5:00pm; Full Time Standard Hours/Week: 40 General Description: The Certified Sterile Processing and Transport Technician reports to the Sterile Processing Department Supervisor. Under the direct supervision of the Sterile Processing Manager, responsible for decontamination, assembly and preparation, sterilization and distribution of medical instruments and supplies to the operating room and minor equipment items throughout the hospital. Responsible for the safe transport of both contaminated and sterile instruments. This position shall exemplify the desired Culture of Choice and philosophies of Parrish Healthcare. Key Responsibilities: * Works in the decontamination area to receive and wash all contaminated instruments and equipment items using proper washing techniques set forth by protocols and infection control standards and guidelines. * Assembles surgical trays and packs according to established protocols. Examines and inspects instruments for contamination, wear and tear, staining and or damage before packaging. Demonstrates knowledge of surgical instruments. * Participates in the sterilization process, including use of biological indicators and testing/operating equipment. Demonstrates knowledge of proper sterilization techniques. * Pulls supplies and instrument trays for surgical cases. Demonstrates knowledge of supplies and their locations. * Participates in ongoing in-service of new equipment items to ensure proper washing and sterilization techniques. * Transports contaminated instruments and sterile instruments between Parrish Medical Center and the Parrish Medical Group offices safely in accordance with AAMI and DOT guidelines. Is responsible for tracking of tools and instruments for auditing and accounting purposes. * Provides education to Parrish Medical Group care partners regarding the proper handling of instruments in all offices, to include ensuring all on site storage areas are managed properly and audited by guidelines set by infection control * Keeps certification active, to include maintaining a clean driving record. Ensures working with infection control on updating any new guidelines and or processes that need to be implemented. Participates in monthly meetings. * Performs similar or related duties as assigned. * Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as it pertains to the work area. Requirements: Formal Education: * Vocational or other technical school, certification, training or apprenticeship required beyond high school. Certification as Central Service Technician required. Work Experience: * 1 year to < 2 years with at least one year in Sterile Processing Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations: * Central Service Technician certification required. * Must obtain DOT biohazard training certification within 1 month of hire date. * Valid State of Florida Drivers License (FDL) and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) that is acceptable to PMC's corporate automobile insurance carrier - license will be screened prior to employment and annually thereafter.
