Performs the re-assembly and packaging of instrument sets accurately and efficiently and in accordance with department policies and procedures and/or the manufacturer's instructions for use.Performs manual and mechanical cleaning of reusable instrumentation and equipment.Inspects instruments for cleanliness. Inspects instruments for defects and proper functionality. Uses various electronic equipment to inspect electrosurgical instruments and cables for defects.Restocks Specialty Carts and Omnicells as necessary.Documents completed work and verifies processing parameters.Performs accurate documentation within the SPD Information system.Sterilize instrument sets in accordance with departmental policies and procedures and manufacture instructions for use (IFU).Pick supplies for same day/next day surgical cases.Answer telephone calls from internal and external customers.

Qualifications
Education:
Graduate of a recognized Surgical Technologist program, or in the last semester of an approved program is required.
National certification and CPR certification are required within 6 months of graduation from recognized program, or within 6 months start date of employment.
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
Maintains current CPR certification
Surgical Technologist Certification preferred at all Memorial locations, but is required at Decatur Memorial.
Experience:
Previous experience in multiple surgical specialties is preferred.
Responsibilities
1. Performs duties in capacity of "scrub" technologist as prescribed by hospital policies and procedures.
Sets room for a routine, uncomplicated procedure with supplies and equipment in 5-15 minutes.
Sets room for complicated or multi-procedure case requiring many special supplies in 30 minutes.
Assists circulator in checking equipment.
Assists circulator in obtaining supplies prior to bringing patient to room.
Has basic knowledge of instrumentation and its appropriate use.
Checks instrumentation regarding cleanliness, function, correct number of pieces, and completeness of tray.
Allows adequate time for preparation of supplies and counting (i.e., routine case 15 minutes, complicated case 30-40 minutes).
Has basic knowledge of surgical procedures.
Organizes and maintains a neat, clean mayo, instrument, and back tables.
Attempts reasonable anticipation of sequence of instrumentation.
Properly identifies medication.
Handles floor stock medications or medications delivered from pharmacy directly or through the pneumatic tube station. Relocate these medications, in original containers, to designated secure storage locations or delivers directly to appropriate licensed staff.
Keeps track of sponges, needles, and instruments during procedure at all times.
Relays accurate identification of specimens and cultures.
Organizes and assists in end-of-case clean up.
Separates sharp and delicate instruments during clean up.
Assists in pulling cases.
2. Assists in maintenance of safe environment for patients and staff.
Has knowledge and applies principles of good aseptic practice (i.e., appropriate scrub length, OR attire, proper gowning, gloving, and draping methods).
Checks sterile supplies for proper packaging and dating.
Actively assists in recognizing and reporting breaks in sterile technique.
Requests assistance of Sterile Processing personnel in preparation of instruments for immediate reuse.
Follows protocol for universal blood- and body-fluid precautions at all times.
Prevents loss of instruments by thorough search of drapes before they are discarded.
3. Assists in the orderly function of the OR.
Demonstrates flexibility in a team effort (i.e., takes required supplies from circulator when offered).
Checks room for and puts away excess supplies and equipment.
Takes initiative and seeks appropriate opportunities to update and maintain surgical skills (i.e., requests certain cases and attends inservices).
Assists in checking to-follow cases for completeness and accuracy.
Assists in orientation of new personnel.
Actively participates in checking and maintaining assignment by participating as a permanent team member.
Participates in updating surgeon's preference list.
Reports to assigned room on time.
Understands and follows disaster plan.
Follows hospital/unit policies, procedures, and behavioral expectations.
Uses designated lines of communication and authority.
Willingly assists co-workers to facilitate patient care.
Attends 65 percent or a minimum of 6 unit staff meetings per year, whichever number is greater. Seeks excused absences by OR director or specialty supervisor when needed. Reviews and signs minutes.
Attends or participates in JCAHO and other mandatory inservices.
4. Initiates appropriate intraoperative behaviors unique to first assistant, if trained to do so.
Provides hemostasis to reduce potential for post-operative infection and potential for fluid volume deficit by clamping and/or ligating vessels, using electrosurgical cautery, applying direct pressure, applying chemical agents that promote coagulation, and other means as directed by surgeon.
Provides exposure of the operative site through the appropriate use of retractors and other instruments and through suctioning and sponging.
Uses surgical instrumentation skillfully in ways consistent with their design and purpose as directed by the surgeon.
Handles all variety of tissue appropriately to reduce potential for injury or compromised blood supply.
Sutures skillfully all varieties of tissue with the appropriate suture materials and suturing techniques.

Basic Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:
Experience in processing, assembling, troubleshooting, preparing, sterilizing, storing, and issuing sterile and unsterile medical supplies and equipment.
Possess knowledge of the technical names, general uses, physical characteristics, and operating conditions of medical supply items.
Proven experience in decontamination, cleaning, preparation, sterilization, and storage procedures.
Knowledge of aseptic techniques.
Skilled in operating a washer-sterilizer, ultrasonic instrument cleaners, and gas and steam sterilizers.
Attention to detail and ability to follow strict protocols and procedures.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

**Responsibilities**
+ Highest ranking individual onsite. Influences other technicians, but they report to the remote depot supervisor.
+ Must be able to effectively remotely collaborate with remote Depot Supervisor to ensure quality service is provided to the customers and ensure prompt follow-through on service and quality issues and managing inventory levels.
+ Monitor productivity, adhere to budgetary guidelines, and work to meet Depot objectives and Velocare operational goals while maintaining quality standards.
+ Conduct deliveries to customer locations (primarily the home of the hospital patient), conduct proof of delivery, technology setup, medical products/equipment placement and notify delivery status, as well as provide leadership and training to other depot personnel in same function.
+ Must be able to communicate effectively with management and other leaders of the operations to deliver timely and accurate information.
+ Ensure quality completion of daily, weekly, and periodical depot tasks such as inventory management, equipment cleaning, van maintenance scheduling, small parcel outbound shipping, technology troubleshooting, temperature monitoring and recording, order dispatching, work order accuracy, and all required documentation.
+ Oversee and maintain the accuracy of inventory including tasks such as cycle counts, receiving, executing inventory control procedures, training team members, and ensuring compliance with company policies
+ Contribute towards Velocare innovation to improve the quality of our service to our customers.
+ Play a key role to help meet Cardinal Health compliance and regulations concerning OSHA, DEA, FDA, State and local authorities.
+ Coordinate maintenance of equipment and vehicles, guiding both preventive maintenance and coordinating all necessary repairs, with guidance from Depot Supervisor.

The medical supply technician is responsible for managing the inventory, sanitation, distribution, and maintenance of medical supplies and equipment within the healthcare facility. This role is responsible for ensuring that all medical instruments and equipment are properly sterilized to maintain a safe and sterile environment. This position will work closely with healthcare professionals to ensure that all necessary supplies are available and play a critical role in preventing infections and ensuring the safety of patients and healthcare personnel.
This is a fulltime position and the approximate hours are 4PM - 6:00 AM (14-hour shifts) M-F Shift, Sat - Sun Shift.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Follow established protocols and procedures for sterilizing medical instruments and equipment and adhere to strict safety protocols and infection control measures.
Operate sterilization equipment such as autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, and chemical sterilizers.
Monitor sterilization cycles and ensure that all instruments are processed according to regulatory standards.
Ensure that supplies are stored properly and securely.
Keep detailed maintenance records, schedules, and maintain accurate records of all medical supplies and equipment.
Perform routine maintenance and repairs on medical equipment as needed and coordinate with manufacturers or service providers for more complex repairs.
Inspect medical instruments for cleanliness and functionality prior to sterilization.
Disassemble instruments as needed and remove any debris or organic matter.
Properly package instruments for sterilization, ensuring they are arranged in a way that allows for effective sterilization.
Conduct routine tests and checks to verify the effectiveness of the sterilization process.
Record and maintain accurate documentation of sterilization cycles, including temperature, pressure, and exposure time.
Follow regulatory guidelines and standards for sterilization, including those set by organizations such as the CDC and FDA.
Organize and distribute supplies to various departments within the healthcare facility.
Use VA and CensiTrac systems.

Required Skills/Abilities:
Experience in processing, assembling, troubleshooting, preparing, sterilizing, storing, and issuing sterile and unsterile medical supplies and equipment.
Possess knowledge of the technical names, general uses, physical characteristics, and operating conditions of medical supply items.
Proven experience in decontamination, cleaning, preparation, sterilization, and storage procedures.
Knowledge of aseptic techniques.
Skilled in operating a washer-sterilizer, ultrasonic instrument cleaners, and gas and steam sterilizers.
Attention to detail and ability to follow strict protocols and procedures.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work with a diverse employee population including all levels of management and staff.
Education and Experience:
Successful completion of 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in courses such as medical supply processing, storage, and distribution; sterile supplies, operating room, and surgical technician courses; or other fields related to the position.
Certification as a sterile processing technician (e.g., Certified Registered Central Service Technician - CRCST) is a plus.
Previous experience working in a hospital or other medical facility that is responsible for maintaining and repairing the medical equipment.
Must be able to obtain a Security Clearance.

Relays accurate identification of specimens and cultures.
