Evaluates sterile packs and supplies. Provides a well organized sterile area. Is aware of procedures progression and anticipates the needs of the team, observing sterile technique at all times. Performs all necessary procedures correctly to ensure patient safety intra operatively. Applies and assists with the principles of correct body alignment in positioning and transferring patients. Examines unused equipment and instruments for gross contamination and transports covered used instruments to utility room. Responsible for sterile core activities, able to prioritize duties: Completion of picking case carts, restocking, reordering supplies as needed, assisting with O.R. room needs as necessary. Assists with appropriate measures in emergency situations. Works in conjunction with Circulator in preparation for the next scheduled case. Initiates and facilitates room turnovers: Light housekeeping duties, procurement of equipment, supplies and X-Rays. Restocking of unused supplies and equipment. Participates in the reprocessing process.

Responsibilities
Receive, disassemble, and inspect reusable medical devices and surgical instrumentation for damage.
Receive and dispose of regulated medical waste, general waste and soiled linen.
Comply with OSHA regulations governing the wearing of personal protective equipment at all times when working in the decontamination area.
Determine the correct method of decontamination to include the following: removal of blood, tissue fragments, body fluids and other gross contaminants. Decontamination methods shall include wiping, soaking, rinsing, scrubbing, and using ultrasonic and washer decontamination/sterilizer equipment.
Examine all items after decontamination/pre-sterilization procedures to ensure that gross contaminants have been removed and that instruments function properly.
Ensure that all medical devices and surgical instrumentation are properly labeled and identified.
Assemble and prepare the full range of specialty trays and instrument sets. Select correct wrapping or packaging material for medical devices and surgical instrument sets, select sterilization process in accordance with standard MTF procedures to include Ethylene Oxide (ETO) or Steam Sterilization. Correctly label, seal, wrap or place in rigid containers, items with appropriate chemical indicator tape, and aerate gas sterilized items for the correct period of time.
Receive sterilized trays, sets, and equipment from the sterilizer; check for integrity of sterilization, (i.e., color changes on indicator tapes, external and internal indicators, and dampness of packages); stock and properly store sterile items in sterile storage room in accordance with MTF procedures.
Qualifications
Degree/Education: Certificate. Completion of central sterile supply training course.
Certification: Current certification by the International Association of Healthcare Central Services Materials Management or current certification by the National Institute of Health Care Sterile Processing and Distribution Personnel.

Responsibilities
Receive, disassemble, and inspect reusable medical devices and surgical instrumentation for damage.
Receive and dispose of regulated medical waste, general waste and soiled linen.
Comply with OSHA regulations governing the wearing of personal protective equipment at all times when working in the decontamination area.
Determine the correct method of decontamination to include the following: removal of blood, tissue fragments, body fluids and other gross contaminants. Decontamination methods shall include wiping, soaking, rinsing, scrubbing, and using ultrasonic and washer decontamination/sterilizer equipment.
Examine all items after decontamination/pre-sterilization procedures to ensure that gross contaminants have been removed and that instruments function properly.
Ensure that all medical devices and surgical instrumentation are properly labeled and identified.
Assemble and prepare the full range of specialty trays and instrument sets. Select correct wrapping or packaging material for medical devices and surgical instrument sets, select sterilization process in accordance with standard MTF procedures to include Ethylene Oxide (ETO) or Steam Sterilization. Correctly label, seal, wrap or place in rigid containers, items with appropriate chemical indicator tape, and aerate gas sterilized items for the correct period of time.
Receive sterilized trays, sets, and equipment from the sterilizer; check for integrity of sterilization, (i.e., color changes on indicator tapes, external and internal indicators, and dampness of packages); stock and properly store sterile items in sterile storage room in accordance with MTF procedures.
Qualifications
Degree/Education: Certificate. Completion of central sterile supply training course.
Certification: Current certification by the International Association of Healthcare Central Services Materials Management or current certification by the National Institute of Health Care Sterile Processing and Distribution Personnel.

The Sterile Processing Technician II performs routine maintenance and preparation of instruments, supplies and equipment requiring decontamination and sterilization in a medical facility, as well as all duties performed by the Sterile Processing Technician I.
This is the second level of a three-level series. It is distinguished from the lower level by increased responsibility for the sterilization, assembly, and testing of medical equipment, supplies and instruments. It is distinguished from the higher level by closer supervision and less complex procedures.
Function/Duties of Position
* Knowledge in regards to the handling and care of instrumentation, tray preparation, and special procedural items. Assembling all trays processed by the department. Use knowledge of sterilization and infection control principles to properly decontaminate instrumentation and equipment.
* Appropriately operate equipment including, but not limited to, cart washers, decontaminators, computers, ultrasonic, scanners, telephones, and photocopiers.
* Performs routine instrument and equipment quality checks.

Must be able to multitask in a fast-paced dental practice.
Ability to read and comprehend, simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to work well under pressure work with frequent interruptions and shifting priorities.
Primary Functions:
Prepares treatment room for patient by following prescribed procedures and protocols
Sterilizes and delivers instruments to treatment areas; positions instruments for dentist's access; suctions; passes instruments
Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
Adheres to infection-control policies and protocols
Ensures operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; follows manufacturer's instructions; calls for repairs when necessary
Maintains dental supplies inventory; places orders for supplies; verifies receipt of supplies
Conserves dental resources by using equipment and supplies as needed
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications
Contributes to team effort
