Job DescriptionDescription:
Material Handler is responsible for positioning transport vehicles, loading and unloading materials and maintaining facility equipment, building and grounds in a Safe, Reliable, and Productive manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Understand and adhere to all expectations for performance: Know all policies, procedures, regulations, and requirements of the position.
Operate and maintain equipment and facilities: Support equipment, machinery (certification on various equipment is a job requirement). Ensure compliance to 5S systems and maintain Kanban levels in storage areas.
Maintain safety awareness: Wear all PPE consistently, perform tasks in a safe manner and ensure others always work safely, bring awareness to issues and near-miss as discovered in all areas of the operation. Take action to prevent and clean up spills.
Perform all tasks to the highest standards: Safety, 5S, Quality, and Productivity.
Perform to all production schedule requirements: Be able to work a variety of shifts and schedules, perform daily activities (start-up, during the shift, shutdown).
Complete all documentation: Complete documents and reports accurately and timely.
Be an effective team member: Set a positive example, fulfill all responsibilities on-time, resolve customer issues in a positive manner, fill-in on other duties as assigned, keep commitments to others, communicate effectively, and build teamwork within the group.
Requirements:
Able to communicate (written and verbal) in English.
Valid NC Driver License with clean record.
Able to operate various automated equipment, make adjustments and perform maintenance.
Able to lift/carry up to 75 lbs. regularly and have physical fitness to maneuver around and into equipment / facilities to operate machinery and complete maintenance tasks.
Work independently and diligently with minimal directions.
Communicate well with team members and supervisor.
Apply troubleshooting skills to solve problems and contribute to the success of the team.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB AND CONTRIBUTION TO ORGANIZATION:
This position supports production objectives by performing material handling needs to support a production line or shipping and receiving. Operates hand tools, heavy machinery including forklifts, and at times computers.
ESSENTIAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following job functions are not all-inclusive. The employee will be required to perform other job-related tasks/responsibilities requested by the supervisor. Job duties may change as required by needs of company.
Perform all assigned material handling requirements as assigned by the Supervisor. Responsibilities are subject to change based on supervisor's direction.
Review the required work orders and scheduling of parts collection, kitting, and delivery to the designated work area in a timely manner.
Conduct a visual inspection on all parts to ensure proper part, quality, and quantity is received prior to delivery.
Pick-up empty totes and/or parts requests from various pick-up areas on route every 20 minutes.
Accurately delivers parts/supplies to departments drop off areas in an orderly manner and check for Kanban shortages and restock as needed.
Operate stock chaser as required to achieve pick-up and delivery of parts/material/WIP.
Ability to perform daily maintenance and pre-operational checks on the forklifts, stock chaser, trailers, and charging station, including refueling.
Informs management of developments regarding the “Milk Run” operation or material issues.
Ability to use a Forklift and other devices to move materials, equipment, and parts to their designated area.
Empty scrap/ trash containers (Belts, Cells, Plasma, Machine, Crate) and dispose of all steel, belting, and trash from the plant to the containers in the rear of the facility.
Assist with loading or unloading transport vehicles, containers with parts, and/or new product, etc.
Maintain a clean and safe work area. Ensure company policies are applied and enforced (i.e. operational, safety, administrative, etc.)
Cross train in two different production areas at the basic level (such as Fabrication, Belt, Paint, and Assembly).
Ability to work under tight deadlines not limited to working overtime or alternate shifts.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: :

Incumbent must be able to occasionally lift and carry up to 75 pounds. Good close, distance, color, and peripheral vision as well depth perception and the ability to see colors and adjust focus are required.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. This position works indoors in a manufacturing (warehouse) environment. Must be able to work in various weather and temperature conditions to include extreme heat, humidity and cold. Essential Functions:
Loads and unloads luggage onto/from dollies and loads and unloads the dollies onto/from the ferry. Unloads other items such as, but not limited to: bicycles, golf clubs, boxes, etc.
Directs pedestrian traffic by handling ropes, ensures that departing and arriving passengers get on/off boat in orderly fashion.
Prepares trams for operation. Keeps tram clean and orderly.
Politely and cheerfully greets customers and directs them to the appropriate tram. Assists them with the loading of luggage onto the tram at the ferry landing. Transports customers and luggage to their destination and helps them with unloading luggage from the tram.
Checks tram fluid levels daily. Reports any equipment or mechanical problems with tram and repairs if authorized. Washes and cleans trams as needed.
Operates vehicles at all times in a safe, courteous manner, complies with all traffic rules and laws.
Performs basic janitorial functions in and around the ferry landing, i.e. picks up all trash and empties trash cans. Sweeps and cleans office area, storage shed, and all assigned work areas.
Delivers mail and other packages transported on ferry. Loads mail for departure.
Takes immediate, pro-active action to identify owners of stray bags, or to locate reported missing items, and return them to their owners. Tags and places lost luggage in Lost and Found storage
area.
Maintains “Vehicle Preventive Maintenance Check List” on a daily basis.
Work schedule includes days, evenings, weekends and holidays, outdoors in all weather
conditions.

May fulfill the duties of Dock Person and pre-scan passengers when required, due to
personnel shortages.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under general supervision, welcomes customers at the ferry landing, assists them with their luggage and provides general information. Reports to the Shift Supervisor.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK

Essential Functions:
Carefully loads and unloads luggage on and off dollies and loads and unloads dollies on and off the ferry.
Pre-scan passengers boarding ferries and ensure all passengers use proper tickets or boarding pass.
Greets customers and assists them with the unloading/loading of luggage at ferry landing, responds to inquiries and advises customers about transportation issues.
Performs basic janitorial functions in and around the ferry landing, i.e. ensure restrooms and waiting area are clean, picks up all trash and empties trash cans. Keeps dock, sidewalk, and parking lot areas clean of trash, and performs light landscaping maintenance. Ensures rounds are made to accomplish these functions in between each ferry arrival.
Monitors the ferry landing and surrounding areas for safety, corrects and/or reports any safety issues to Shift Supervisor.
Assists the ferry captain and crew with the handling of mail to ensure delivery to and from the island.
Assists customers with tagging luggage and temporary storage when appropriate.
Work schedule includes days, evenings, weekends and holidays, outdoors in all weather conditions.
Additional Functions:
On Island be prepared to fulfill the duties of Outfitter when directed, due to personnel shortages.

Performs other related work as required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school or equivalent, one year of experience in a position dealing with the public; or an equivalent combination of training and experience to provide the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT (S)
Requires the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.
