Job Requirements The Private Swim Instructor is responsible and accountable for providing Quality / No Harm, Customer Experience, and Stewardship by offering superior quality, competitive value, and outstanding service in the form of private swim instruction and coaching at all competency levels. Primary Accountabilities Quality/No Harm: * Design individualized instructional programs based on age and skill level. * Incorporate water safety in all manner of instruction. * Offer the finest swim instruction available in Brevard County, bar none. * Maintain National Certification and stay abreast of developments in the field of swim instruction and stroke refinement. Customer Experience: * Strive to "connect" with clients on a personal, yet professional, level. * Communicate effectively and professionally in all situations. Stewardship: * Complete client paperwork and/or insure that paperwork/payment is properly completed before beginning lessons. * Begin and end lessons at assigned time. * Properly track and record time spent with client. * When appropriate, recommend that client continue with additional private swim sessions. Under the direction of the Aquatics Coordinator/Director and in accordance with the policies of the YMCA of Southwest Florida, the Swim Instructor provides swim lessons/ private or group to children and adults of all levels and abilities based on YMCA standards and program requirements. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * The swim instructor is responsible for instructing all swim lesson participants * This position is also responsible for the safety of the participant in their own class * Work hours as scheduled which includes beginning and ending class on time; remaining after class to answer participant and/or parent questions as needed and clean up supplies. * Instructs and evaluates students participating in swim lessons * Submits completed report cards, skills sheets and attendance information on time * Attends mandatory meetings and training sessions as scheduled * Act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency. * Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintains a high standard of customer service. * All other duties as assigned and appropriate * Attend regularly scheduled, mandatory staff meetings. * Utilize time clock and monitor timesheet. John Geigle Branch Swim Instructor Rate of pay: $14.70/hr - $14.95/hr Shift: Varies. We offer weekend lessons and morning weekday lessons. This position is responsible for the integral part of teaching all National YMCA swimming programs, from Parent-Child to Adult, thereby allowing each participant to gain the swimming skills necessary to graduate to the next level of instruction. EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Research shows that some candidates apply only if they meet all of the job criteria. While instructing, maintain all aquatic standards required by the YMCA of the USA for each skill level. *4. Assists in supervision of children in the locker room and pool. *5. Know all emergency procedures and how to apply them. *6. Shares responsibility in interpreting and communicating child's progress to parents. *7. Has written lesson plans available for substitutes for each day of each class taught. *8. Takes responsibility for proper record keeping, and award and progress cards at the conclusion of each session. *9. Conducts themselves in an appropriate and professional manner with staff and participants in all areas of the YMCA. 10. Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct. Keep supplies organized, maintain and clean facility and care for equipment. Assists in proper storage of aquatic equipment. 11. Other duties: A. Under the direction of the Aquatic Director, the Swim Instructor teaches swim techniques, skills and water safety to participants of various ages and skill levels based on YMCA of the USA Aquatics Program Guidelines. The Swim Instructor will consistently exhibit behaviors and attitudes that are consistent with the YMCA Mission and policies of the Association. Under the direction of the Director of Competitive & Developmental Swimming, Head Swim Coach, and/or the Center Aquatics Director, the Swim Coach will assist with all aspects of planning and preparation for the Tampa YMCA Swim Team program. The Swim Coach will assist in the development and recruitment of swimmers participating with the Tampa YMCA Swim Team programs and YMCA Swim Lesson program. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Assist the Head Swim Coach with the development and implementation of workouts, trainings and season plans. * Lead supervised structured practices and/or dry land trainings, ensure attendance is documented. * Evaluate swimmer ability/performance and plan strategies for their improvement. * Assist in coordinating and executing swim team competitions and meet registrations. * Attend specified competitions, training and/or special events as directed by the Head Swim Coach or Director of Competitive & Developmental Swimming. * Develop and implement recruitment and retention strategies for athletes in the program. * Follow all safety recommendations and guidelines per Tampa YMCA policies and USA Swimming * Communicate program information effectively and in a timely manner to supervisors, participants and their families. * Establishes and maintains a team attitude, and encourages good sportsmanship for athletes and parents. * Attend all required staff meetings. Education/ Experience Required: * Must be at least 18 years of age. * High School Diploma preferred. * A Minimum 2+ years of experience coaching swimming or 2+ years in competitive swimming. * Knowledge of USA regulations and safety requirements. Certifications/Trainings Required: * Must obtain within 30 days of employment and maintain current certifications in BLS CPR/AED, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration. * USA Swimming Coaching Certification required.
