Structural drafter job description

The Structural CAD Technician will assist technical teams of detailers, designers and engineers to create world class detail on a variety of projects. This position will assist in developing computer-aided drafting design solutions.

* Prepare new drawings and revise existing engineering drawings of basic components from specific sketches or layouts.
* Responsible for adhering to company and client drafting standards and procedures.
* Responsible for adhering to the drafting practices of selected discipline.
* Assist in drafting design and documentation for various projects.
* Assist with tasks utilizing standard drafting detail programs.
* Assist in continuous drafting detail improvement efforts.
* Research solutions to project concerns and present solutions to design problems.
* Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.
* All other duties as assigned. Requirements:
* Structural/Civil design background is preferred.
* High school diploma and course work in drafting technology or specialized CAD certification. Associate's degree in computer aided drafting and design desirable. Min. GPA 3.0
* Basic knowledge of commands in at least one CAD program; ability to occasionally use higher-level commands, time saving programs and routines.
* Basic knowledge and experience in multiple CAD systems preferred (including 3D).
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
* Ability to work in collaborative team environment.
* Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
* Demonstrated leadership skills.
* Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
* Ability to meet deadlines and budget.

Job DescriptionStructural Staff Drafter – Pittsburgh, PA
We are looking for an experienced Structural Drafter in our Pittsburgh, PA office. This individual must be able to transform engineering sketches and designs into working documents using computer aided design.
Job Summary
Analyzing the performance of a building as it relates to the structural elements, building envelope and surrounding site conditions related to the overall aspect of building construction. The Drafter/Designer is responsible for creating drawings, layouts and designs of various structures and foundations using basic design. Examine and design façade, roof, building construction and site elements related to their effect on the building’s overall performance. Utilize knowledge with design/analysis within related field (structural engineering).
Job Responsibilities

• Adhere to all Structures Group Accountabilities listed within the Appendix A.

• Prepare design/analysis specifications and calculations for active projects are accurate and updated on active projects.

• Analyze schematic layouts of structural framing by using applied software for the analysis, interpretation, and design of structural components.

• Ensure contractors adhere to the contract documents (field/office) and prepares summary documentation for presentation with results of investigations.

• Prepare technical reports, ensuring structure and language utilized is easily understood by client and grammatically correct.

• Assist and maintain project schedules, change orders and budgets.

• Perform other duties as needed and assigned.

Requirements/Education/Skills/Qualifications

• Experience and proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit Autodesk
• CAD certification from technical school or program
• 1-3 years of related CAD experience in the structural engineering and/or construction industries
• 0-3 years of Building Envelope assessment and/or design in support of various building projects and initiatives.
• Understanding of processes, compliance, and other design consulting and construction professionals.

Design

• Follow the design intent of graphic and verbal directions during all phases of project.

• Proficient in the documentation of project design in REVIT such as three dimensional modeling, product or material research.

Technical

• Demonstrate AutoCAD competency in advance commands of editing requirements, drawings set up for any type of project, management and use of all AutoCAD files and resolution of any related AutoCAD issues on JRMA AutoCAD platform.
• Have advanced knowledge of REVIT, and the ability to generate base model and manipulation/editing required for the project in coordination with Technical Leader.
• Participate in the development of working drawings, and help fulfill requirements/deliverables of SD, DD, and CD phases.
• Understand technical terminology of the building and construction industry.
