StructuralEngineer (SE)
The Position
The StructuralEngineer (SE) for Above Group shall contribute and support the Engineering efforts for the Firm. The SE shall possess a bachelor's degree in Civil engineering, and a master's degree with a structural emphasis or equivalent, from an ABET accredited institution. This individual shall directly contribute to the Firm and its success through the application of knowledge and technical experience to effectively produce a quality design and ultimate product to the customer. The SE is also responsible for contributing to the growth of the team by leading and mentoring subordinate staff in expanding their capabilities and contributions. The SE shall execute design duties as required to ensure quality is always maintained.
The SE shall be a StructuralEngineer registered as a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and a licensed StructuralEngineer (SE) passing the 16 hours NCEES exam, in the United States and/or its territories, at a minimum. Additional credentials are encouraged and desired.
The SE is a StructuralEngineer by education and experience, with the following characteristics:
Ability to combine personal judgment with information to establish and implement design criteria.
Has expertise conventional steel buildings, Concrete, Masonry, light gage, and wood.
Demonstrates proficiency of structural concepts including connection design, design loads, Lateral systems, different materials, and foundation design.
Able to use computer software including Staad, Tedds, Excel, and other applicable tools.
Ability to work well in a team environment as well as an individual. Communicates effectively with individuals in the organization.
Capable of interpreting information set forth in a Basis of Design or a Facilities Requirements Document, as well as additional information gathered from users, other consultants, field surveys and code research.
Applies engineering principles to resolve engineering problems and tasks assigned.
Develops and implements design criteria and system designs from concept through detailed design and construction.
Collaborates with and mentors subordinate staff regarding their responsibilities on a daily basis.
Continuously seeks to improve and is self-teachable.
The SE is a Structural Designer:
Implements criteria and researches applicable codes, and investigates structural systems.
Understands using design tools such as the IBC and referenced codes.
Coordinates and implements the structural system with other team members within the discipline, as well as project team members in other disciplines.
Proficient with design drawing software including Revit and AutoCAD.
Performs system calculations. Sizes and selects system components.
Reviews shop drawing submittals, and travels to job sites to perform field verification.
Produces field reports and punch lists.
The SE develops organizational skills including technical writing and time management:
Uses excellent writing skills to author basis of design (BOD) narratives, design criteria documents, feasibility studies, condition assessment reports, engineering studies and reports, and other high quality highly technical written documents as needed.
Uses excellent writing skills to edit design specifications; respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) incorporating information from project documents, specifications,
Reviews shop drawings and submittals to evaluate compliance with applicable codes, project specifications, and design documents and criteria.
Prepares meeting notes.
Reads relevant project correspondence and maintains project design files.
Demonstrates willingness to work to meet deadlines as required by client demands.

Minimum Requirements

Position Summary
EBI Consulting is looking for a StructuralEngineer to be a subject matter expert for Seismic work as part of our due diligence service offerings. This position will require you to perform Seismic Risk Assessment (SRA)/Probable Maximum Loss (PML) and Property Condition Assessment (PCA) field observations of various property types, including industrial, commercial, and residential properties. You will perform independent research of local and state resources, interview persons familiar with the property, and conduct historical research to compile the information required for PML and PCA reports in accordance with ASTM standards and client specific scopes of work, including Housing and Urban Development (HUD). PML work will focus on the evaluation of buildings for expected seismic performance and risk, including utilizing industry standard seismic risk assessment software and methodologies, as well as reviewing available construction plans, soils reports, and other available documentation.
This is a full-time, salaried position, reporting to the Senior Technical Director within our Transaction Advisory Services practice. The ideal candidate will be based in a significant metro in the Western United States and comfortable traveling the region as part of a work-from-home environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Primary responsibility will be to conduct and review PML studies on buildings, including field work, data compilation, calculations, and report preparation, using SeismiCat or similar platform and the Thiel Zsutty Method. In addition, the successful applicant may also perform structural/forensic investigations of different properties, property condition assessments and construction loan monitoring
Minimum 10 years' experience with building materials/systems, construction or design, or forensic investigation
A breadth of knowledge of seismic design and retrofit requirements utilized in current and past building codes
Prior PML experience required
Knowledge of HUD and/or other government-related scopes of work preferred
Experience working in a fast-paced consulting firm with the ability to independently manage multiple projects
Comfort with being client-facing and presenting seismic information, as applicant will be required to communicate findings to senior internal and external clientele
This role requires superior interpersonal communication skills including the ability to ascertain clients' varied levels of PML prowess, along with their goals for a given project and deliver accurate findings that support those goals while maintaining the utmost technical integrity
Confidently serve as EBI's representative at local and national conferences and seminars to stay current with regulations and fluent in the seismic space with the ability to articulate knowledge to non-experts.
The position typically involves approximately 70% office time and 30% field time

In this role you will be responsible for managing and working primarily on our energy and utility projects including advanced reactor design, analysis of existing systems, and modifications in traditional nuclear plants. Design and analysis in other sectors (industrial, commercial, government, etc.) may also be required. This role will have projects responsibilities across the United States. Some site travel time may be required, but the majority of the work may be performed completely remotely.
This is a technical role and therefore a solid understanding of structuralengineering concepts is required, with an emphasis on the following codes and standards:
ASCE 4
ASCE 7
ASCE 43
ACI-318
ACI-349
AISC Steel Construction Manual and ANSI/AISC 360
Additionally, excellent communication and organizational skills are a must. In this role, you will demonstrate experience and passion in structuralengineering and code knowledge.

Manage projects and perform technical work for the Energy & Utilities group, specifically Nuclear Power

Be willing to travel occasionally (
Attend client project and design meetings, manage project expectations, and complete assigned tasks on schedule and within budget
Prepare and present technical reports and design milestone presentations
Requirements and Qualifications
Required
Technical degree (Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD) in either StructuralEngineering or Civil Engineering with an emphasis on StructuralEngineering
Ability to work under the requirements of 10 CFR Part 810 with respect to nuclear technology
Experience with the design and analysis of concrete and steel structures
Experience with analysis and design for seismic loading scenarios
Experience with ANSYS software
Excellent communication skills, including speaking and writing (email, letters, technical documents, etc.)
Ability to present clear and technically sound engineering concepts and designs
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Ability to manage a project
Desire to seek professional challenges, professional development, and to be an integral part of the long-term growth of Jensen Hughes
Preferred
United States citizen or lawful permanent resident
At least 5 years of experience
Professional Engineer (PE) (structural) license and/or StructuralEngineer (SE) license
Experience with the United States Department of Defense Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) 3-300-series of standards
Experience with design and analysis for extreme loading scenarios (tornado, missile impact, blast, thermal transients, fragment impact, etc.)
Experience with progressive collapse design and analysis
Experience with STAAD and/or GT STRUDL software
Experience with the nonlinear analysis capabilities of the aforementioned software
