Position Duties:
Utilize your welding skills to ensure the structural integrity of storage tanks through various techniques like stick and flux core welding.
Read and interpret blueprints to ensure your welding tasks meet all specifications.
Inspect your work for quality control, promptly addressing any issues you may uncover.
Work alongside your team to ensure projects are completed efficiently and on time.
Maintain a safe work environment by following all safety protocols.
Keep your welding equipment in top shape with routine maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
Requirements
At least a year of welding experience, ideally in the storage tank industry.

Layout, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications.
Determines required equipment, welding method and welding techniques.
Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.
Ignites torch and adjusts valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc.
Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies.
Heats, forms, and dresses metal parts, using hand tools, torch, or arc welding equipment.
Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
Removes rough spots from work piece, using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper.
Inspects grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring
instruments.
Follow blueprints to arrange metal pieces and temporarily fix them into position before welding.
Keep work area clean and organized.
Make recommendations for process improvements.
Perform equipment inspections prior to use.
Report equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the Plant and/or Maintenance Manager.
Work accordingly to meet Safety and Quality goals.
Work with team to balance workload to meet On Time Delivery goals.
Manage company resources to ensure budgetary integrity and client satisfaction.
Deburr and grind metal as necessary to achieve proper surface texture.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of welding techniques, tools and equipment.
Must be detail oriented, self-motivated and disciplined with the ability to multi-task.
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
Able to read and interpret blueprints.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of welding techniques in the following areas: oxygen-acetylene, electric arc, MIG and TIG and other types of weld based on project needs.
Knowledge regarding proper fillers for weld jobs.
Highly skilled in the use of MIG, FCAW & TIG welding processes on a variety of Stainless Steel, Carbon Steel, and Aluminum components and is able to pass certification tests to ASME and AWS codes.
Possess a working knowledge of all applicable manufacturers and industry standards (CMAA, HMI, ANSI, and OSHA).
Strong analytical, conceptual and planning skills.
Excellent math skills and overall PC literacy (Microsoft Office).

Scope of Responsibility:
This position performs production within prescribed codes, and according to prescribed procedures, specifications, and drawings. Must complete Welder Training Program.
Essential Duties:

* Uses the Flux Cored Arc Welding process to tack weld various small components to round or formed shafts to make a pole assembly for the welder to weld. The pole assembly generally consists of a round tube or formed shaft, baseplate, hand hole, arm mounting simplex, tenon top, vangs, step lugs, ladder clips, and/or other small parts.
* Works in Large Pole department on individual fitter station to assemble pole assembly. Assist material handler in loading round tube or formed shaft on individual fitter station.
* Reads and interprets drawings to determine parts needed to assemble pole assembly. Locate and gather Storeroom Personnel staged parts needed for assembly from parts staging area. Frequently pushes, pulls, and lifts up to 50 pounds.
* Reads and interprets drawing to assure proper location of various small part attachments. Layout various locations on round tube or formed shaft based upon interpretation of drawings and specifications.
* Uses measuring tape, level, square, and angle finders to measure distances and angles. Adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides feet, inches, fractions, and decimals. Uses table to convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions.
* Uses plasma torch and oxy-fuel torch to cut steel. Uses jigs made at Sabre/Texas for laying out vang slots and for cutting holes in shafts for inserting hand hole rims, arm mounting simplex, couplings, and other small parts. Wear protective goggles or welding hood to protect eyes from harmful rays.
* Moves around round tube or formed shaft as necessary to get into proper position to accurately measure and assemble components described above including standing on elevated platform when necessitated by the size of the shafts.
* Uses motorized grinders, motorized buffers, stone grinders, and drills to help assemble pole assembly according to prescribed specifications, codes and drawing. Wears protective face shield and safety glasses to protect eyes and face.
* Adjusts welding machine to achieve desired results within parameters of established welding procedures. Changes tips, ceramic cups, and electrodes in plasma torch as needed to achieve desired cutting results.
* Finish weld various products of the unit to keep the product moving through the large pole department in a timely manner. Reads and interprets weld symbols.
* Uses oxy-fuel torch to preheat parts prior to welding. Read codes and specifications to determine proper temperature and uses instruments provided to measure temperature.
* Uses chipping hammer, wire brush, motorized grinder, and motorized wire brush at various times to clean welded areas.
* Uses pneumatic drills and magnetic drills to drill and ream various sizes holes in poles as required by the drawing.
* Wears protective equipment, including safety glasses, insulated welding gloves, welding cap, leather sleeves, and/or cape, and welding hood for protection against hot metal, arc rays, grinding debris, and other potentially.
* Performs visual inspecting and identifies material discrepancies to assure welds have been completed satisfactorily in compliance with applicable drawings and specifications. Uses a weld gauge to measure weld size.
* When called for by the drawings and specifications, must produce full-penetration welds as defined by American Welding Society code. Uses air-arc gouger to remove weld defects, and rewelds to meet specifications.
* Uses overhead crane to load finished poles into bolsters for transportation out of the pole assembly area.
* Welds other products in other areas, using either Flux-Cored Arc Welding or Gas Metal Arc Welding process.
* Assist and instructs other welders and fitters when needed to overcome deficiencies in quality and/or productivity.
* Additional duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
* High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred
* Must have knowledge of basic shop mathematics, addition, subtraction, fractions, multiplication and decimals.
* Proficiency in reading complex prints and specifications.
* Must know how to properly use a weld gauge.

Physical Requirement
* Must be able to stand 100% of scheduled shift. Lifting, pushing, prying, and dragging heavy materials.
* Must be capable of bending, stooping, crawling under or over and occasional climbing of stairs/ladders heights up to 6 or 7 feet.
* Abnormal level of noise due to grinding, chipping, hammering requires hearing protection (ear plugs) be worn at all times.
* Must possess adequate dexterity and stamina to sustain expected production effectively.
