Amber Charter Schools strictly follow a salary schedule for each role to ensure our continued commitment towards pay equity. The expected salary range for this role is $33,606 - $57,376, depending on verified relevant work experience, highest level of completed education, and required certifications and/or licenses for the role. MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
Under the direction of the Deputy Director of Educational Services and the Group/Lead Teacher, the Teacher Assistantassists in providing direct early childhood educational services to children between the ages of two (2) months and five (5) years of age.
The Teacher Assistant is responsible for the supervision and management of all assigned children. The Teacher Assistant interacts directly with the children and models appropriate adult-child interactions for parents.
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist Group/Lead Teacher in maintaining a positive, developmentally appropriate, safe and healthy learning environment.
Assist in implementing weekly lesson plans developed by the Group Teacher.
Actively participate in individual and group child activities.
Assist in the daily set up, break down and cleaning of the classroom.
Assist in serving all daily snacks and meals for assigned children.
Participate in all classroom trips and outings.
Maintain proper inventory and functioning of all classroom materials and children supplies.
Provide direct supervision of residents assigned to the childcare worker job function.
Attend all required in-service training seminars, staff meetings, on and off-site case conferences.

REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION/TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must be 18 years of age or older.
High School Diploma or GED Equivalency required.
CPR/First Aid Certification required, candidates who do not yet have these certifications will have the ability to obtain it within 3 months of hire for continued consideration.
NYS Central Registry Check and fingerprint clearance required upon hire required.
Proficiency with computer operations (Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook programs) required.
Must be able to lift small children.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule.

Under the supervision of the Director, the Teaching Assistant is responsible for assisting the classroom Teacher in planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate, child-centered program of activities that promotes the social-emotional, cognitive and physical development of each child through exploration and discovery. This position is based at the Kean Child Care and Development Center located on the Union, New Jersey, Kean University campus.
Qualifications: Experience working with young children and families in a childcare/school or educational setting is required. Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment background check and a Child Abuse Record Information (CARI) check, as well as subsequent checks per licensing requirements is also required. Candidate must have the ability to use a computer with basic proficiency and have strong oral and written communication skills.
Preferred qualifications include: an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field; minimum of 1-2-years of classroom teaching experience and experience with children with special needs; and current Child Development Associate (CDA) Certificate with a Preschool or Infant/Toddler Endorsement.
In addition to undergoing a pre-employment physical and successfully completing background screening checks, this position also has physical requirements. These include: the ability to constantly move, stand, sit, bend and kneel for short and long periods of time, hand dexterity and the ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds; ability to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children, see and hear to ensure children's health and safety and engage in physical activities with children; and the ability to work indoors and outdoors.

Requirements
The assistant teacher shall meet the requirements set by the Agency for NYC Department of Education.
Be at least eighteen years old; and
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED); and
Must be willing to obtain the a valid Level 1 or higher NY State Teaching Assistant certification or a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential during first 6 months of employment
Must clear DOE fingerprinting and background authorizations.
