We're making an investment in the next generation of veterinary doctors! As part of the professional veterinary curriculum, colleges encourage off-campus educational experiences in practices outside of the teaching hospital. Practical experience in a well-run and contemporary practice can be a valuable component of your veterinary education, preparing you to deliver better care after graduation. Our program is dedicated to contributing to your practice-readiness and to help you hit the ground running after graduation. Our program structure: Our externships are flexible-they can range from two to eight weeks during the year, according to your college curriculum - but are typically two or three weeks in length. Your schedule will include days, evenings and weekends. Our externship rotations are designed to allow students, under veterinary supervision, to practice the problem-solving, technical and communication skills that they have acquired during their clinical preparation. Externs are given the opportunity to work alongside our veterinary team and are encouraged to participate in all aspects of patient care. A stipend of $250 per week will be provided. What you'll be doing: Externs experience the typical caseload of a small animal practice. Under the supervision of your mentor doctor you will gather histories, perform physical examinations, develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans, scrub in to surgery, assist in the management of medical cases, provide wellness care, develop your client communication skills, polish your technical skills and produce appropriate medical records (SOAPs) within the time limits of daily practice. Who we're looking for: Extern students are expected to be enthusiastic and effective participants in our patient care activities, upholding the professional and ethical standards of our practice. Students participating in the externship program are suggested to review the Veterinary Practice Act in regard to the scope of duties that may be performed, and to be familiar with the type and degree of veterinary supervision that is required. These should be followed carefully in order to protect both yourself and our practice. As a veterinary student extern, we expect you to dress and behave in a professional manner and to meet the expectations that we have of all team members as outlined in our employee handbook. Family Resource Center/Teacher Assistant Before/After School Date Available: immediately Additional Information: Show/Hide PART TIME TEACHER ASSISTANT Before/After School Care Enrichment Program: (School Year only, no summer) Hours 7:00-9:00 am, 3:00-5:30 pm Monday - Friday (Jerome Harrison School) Hours 7:00 am - 8:00 am, 2:30 - 5:30 pm (TVES School) (afternoon start time may vary depending on program needs) Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Family Resource Center Director and Before/After School Coordinator, the Assistant Teacher will be responsible for carrying out the program mission in accordance with the plans and activities set in place by the Coordinator of the before and after school program for children in grades Pre-K-2 or 3-5, depending on the school assignment. The Assistant Teacher will report directly to the Coordinator and/or Director of the FRC. The prospective candidate will support the other team members of the program and assume the day to day responsibility for the assigned site, ensuring a quality program is run following the guidelines set by the Family Resource Center, North Branford Board of Education and the State of CT. Essential Responsibilities and Duties: * Work closely with the Coordinator and team members to plan group activities to stimulate growth in language, and social and emotional skills such as learning to listen to instructions, playing with others, and using play equipment in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Family Resource Center. * Adheres to positive guidance policies and supports co-teachers in consistently meeting needs of children in the program. * Maintain weekly lessons plans that provide children with experiences that build self-esteem, encourages self-reliance and helps each child to function cooperatively in a group. * Provide day-to-day support to co-teachers by sharing daily program plans and discussing any issues or concerns for the day. * Participate with and actively supervises children at all times. * Ensure the safety and well being of each child by responding to their emotional, social and physical needs, which may result in the use of PMT training techniques to calm a child. * Attend monthly staff meetings, special events or any other after hours events determined by the Supervisor and Coordinator * Maintain professional growth in accordance to high quality standards by completing required professional development trainings designated by Supervisor. * Help maintain healthy and safe facility by following daily cleaning protocols for each space the program utilizes during program hours. * Establish a positive relationship with each child and model proper program behavior at all times. * Maintain and enforce all Program documentation procedures when it comes to injury, accidents, behavior issues or any incident that occurs at the site. Qualifications: Hold an Associate Degree in Early Childhood, or a certificate in early childhood, or a closely related field Or Have one year of college level work, and, for either, have one year of working with school-age children in a similar setting, And have a high school diploma with two years experience working with school-age children in a similar setting. Be a positive role model for all caregiving staff and children Be CPR, First Aid, Epi-Pen and PMT (physical, psychological management training) certified or obtain certification upon hire.
