This position will serve as a Licensed Substitute and also a teacher assistant, under the supervision of administration and cooperating teacher(s), to provide tutoring, oversight and monitoring to students, in both face to face and online formats; identifies, monitors and assists students and families in resolving student attendance and academic performance concerns; provide interventions, classroom management and redirection to at-risk students in a small student to teacher/tutor environment; monitors student progress and works with attendance, counseling and social services programs, to coordinate services and interventions. In addition, this position will conduct student and family orientation on a weekly basis as needed.
Terms of Employment: 10 Months per Contract of Employment
Salary: The compensation for this position is in alignment with the BANV Governing Board approved Salary Schedule; Salary Schedule based on years' experience and degree held. Compensation for all positions are determined by the Governing Board and Administration of Beacon Academy. Consideration is given for experience and specialized skills in determining salary.
Salary Range: $25.00 per hour
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as a licensed substitute and teacher assistant to students. Ensure the opportunity for all students to learn in a supportive environment.
Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, corporation policy, and administrative regulations. Follow school procedures and policies.
Create and maintain a positive, orderly, and academically focused learning condition in the instructional environment.
Ensure students make progress in every class, every day they attend class and stay on task.
Conduct new student orientations each week and follow up with new students in their in person and online class success by tracking returning attendance and grade progress. Collaborating with colleagues to provide additional success support for new students.
Analyze student progress and provide appropriate instruction. Provide instructional support and interventions.
Plan daily instruction with colleagues for students in whole-group, or interventions based upon small group, or one-on-one.
Assist in the implementation of all aspects of Academic Seminar, including student progress monitoring and goal setting utilizing the STEP card and 1:1 time with each student.
Assist in the classroom procedures and inform students of rules concerning behavioral expectations. Employ a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments, which guide the learning process toward academic achievement and curriculum goals under the MTSS umbrella.
Assist in the implementation of SWPBS. Use the administrative tools provided to monitor, report and coach students to maintain effective and efficient SWPBS.
Maintain open communication and interaction between school staff, students, and parents/guardians to identify barriers affecting students' attendance and school performance, and to provide appropriate intervention.
Ensure compliance with COVID-19 procedures and assist with daily sanitization.
Participate in other job-related duties and activities related to the position as assigned.

Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field from an accredited college or university.
Nevada Teaching license or substitute teaching license.

Strong PC skills with solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Experience in school or community settings working directly with at-risk students assisting with intervention and resolution of difficulties involving student attendance, academic behavior, etc.

Students will focus on honing their emergency skills including obtaining patient vitals, processing laboratory samples, caring for hospitalized patients, triaging emerging cases, and collaborating in a fast-paced environment. If you're as interested in emergency medicine as we are, we'd love to have you!
Notes: Unless you are already employed by us, this is an unpaid externship. Rabies vaccinations are required for all externs (even if you are already employed by us) since you may be handling pets with an unknown rabies vaccination status. * As a Sustainability Council member, promote the Sustainability Council and recruit new members, especially student members, to make sure all stakeholders on campus are represented.
* Interact with Faculty & Staff via social media and act as SC liaison with Nevada State Student Alliance, Nevada State Alliance for Science club, Student Life Office, and in classes and events to enhance campus engagement in sustainability topics.
* Lead student sustainability events that educate and encourage awareness and action to preserve the campus environment.
* Responsible for interacting with The Village Student Housing staff and residents to recommend environmentally-friendly practices and procedures, especially water and energy conservation.
* Serve as the liaison with the Scorpion Cafe and Garden Farms for determining and managing composting options; this will require independent research and making decisions in collaboration with the Sustainability Council for best practices for composting that will function well with the Café's menus. This includes developing the signage to educate the campus community on the best practices to compost.
* Coordinate Sustainability Council meeting schedule, email notifications, meeting minutes and work projects.
* Collect and present data for marketing and communication of Sustainability Council events by using the Scorpion Central page and coordinating with the Marketing and the Center for Diversity and Inclusion departments.
* Contribute to sustainability initiatives using promotional and educational materials by writing, editing, and designing content for campus announcements, displays, newsletters, sustainability guides, and training materials.
* Assist with special projects to advance waste minimization initiatives in collaboration with the Facilities department.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Must be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
* Must be enrolled as a degree seeking student with a minimum of 6 credits in the current or upcoming semester at Nevada State.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Signing abilities (for the hearing impaired program).
2. One (1) year experience working with special education children.

1. High school transcript or other equivalent (i.e., GED, foreign equivalency, etc.)
2. Copy of a valid driver's license or state-issued identification card.
3. Current CPR/AED certificate, as indicated above. A copy of the front and back of the CPR/AED certificate must be uploaded into the application.
4. One of the following:
· Transcript(s) from an accredited college/university.
· Proof of passing score on the ETS ParaPro assessment.
5. Specific documented evidence of training and experience to satisfy qualifications.
