Student interns at BGC can expect a mix of office and field-based project work that supports a wide variety of clients in the mining, pipeline, transportation, energy, and community sectors, completed under the guidance of technical experts. Typical field work includes site investigations (including drilling, testing pitting, lab testing, geophysical surveys, instrumentation installation, river/stream inspection, and geohazard assessment) and construction monitoring (including dam, pond, and ditch construction, fill placement, foundation excavation, assessment and approval, and instrumentation installations and monitoring). Field work could range from a couple days up to approximately 2-week long field stints in remote areas, and multiple shifts, or a scheduled rotation. The balance of office and field work varies, though BGC strives to get student interns into the field with BGC's professionals whenever possible. Typical office work includes reporting and interpretation of field data, supporting data management and data entry, interpretation of instrumentation data, and contribution to designs.
