Summary:
The Growing Up New Mexico Early Learning Center at Kaune is a state funded PreK Program and Early Childhood Center that seeks to strengthen families and the community through an interconnected network of early intervention, education, economic development, and family support programs. Growing Up New Mexico is comprised of programs and services including Home Visiting; Great Start Family Support; Early Learning Programs; Bridges to Opportunity; Family, Friends, and Neighbors; and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library programs.
The Teacher's Aide is responsible for providing support to each of the classrooms at the Early Learning Center at Kaune and must report for duty on time and perform quality program assistance and support during classroom time and for meals. The Teacher Aide complies with program policies and disciplinary standards. This is a full-time position expected to work 40 hours per week.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Teach and/or care for children as needed and directed by teachers and program director.
Take children to the bathroom and relieve teachers for breaks as appropriate.
Ensure that all ECECD regulations for childcare, including those pertaining to health and safety, are met for each child at all times, including knowledge of and participation in emergency evacuation procedures.
Follow program, discipline, and confidentiality policies and procedures for the Growing Up New Mexico Early Learning Center at Kaune
Participate in mandatory trainings that may be held outside regular working hours (evenings/weekends) as necessary.

Collect and keep the meal counts current and accurate.
Maintain a neat community space and classroom.
Make sure books, materials, and supplies are used appropriately and properly cleaned and put away each day.

Qualifications:
Minimum of high school diploma/GED and one year of experience working with children.
Prefer experience and/or education in early childhood, lesson planning, and/or enrichment activity planning.
Must have completed the 45-hour certification
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Ability to work well in culturally diverse setting and knowledge of local population served, to include children and families representing a wide range of socio-economic and risk factors.
Ability to pass a mandatory background clearance required of all childcare workers in the State of New Mexico.
CPR certified within first 90 days of employment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED certificate and (1) year experience working with children.
Must have or obtain a First Aid/CPR Certification one month after hired.

Valid New Mexico Driver's License and insurable through the Tribe's insurance carrier;
Must not have any DUI/DWI convictions within the last five (5) years from any Tribal, State or
Federal Court;
Must pass a background check successfully; and
Must pass a drug/alcohol screening.
Must complete a physical examination with PPD on file.
PHYSICAL/WORK ENVIORNMENT:

Duties
* Assists Early Childhood Teacher implement daily educational and activity plans for students in accordance with established lesson plan.
* Assists facilitating small group interactive sessions. Implements age appropriate corrective measures and disciplines as needed and appropriate for management of safe and educationally conducive classroom environment.
* Reviews upcoming lesson plan, prepares all classroom materials in support of lessons goals and objectives.
* Adhere to the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct and Statement of Commitment.
* Assists in the supervision of the classroom and playground activities, assists plan and supervise meals, snacks, and refreshments to children. Cleans and organizes classroom areas, toys and equipment. Assists teachers prepare for classroom activities. Escorts, assists, and instructs children regarding personal hygiene practices. Makes copies and cuts out project materials.
* Participates in a variety of department and staff meetings for discussion of issues, concerns, and programs requirements.
* Performs all necessary sanitizing and hygiene care both routinely and as needed for young children.
* Documents and completes student records. Participates in regular parent conferences to discuss progress and developmental assessments. Participates in pre-semester home visits of enrolled students.
* Prepares newsletters. Participates in monthly fire and/or emergency drills and procedures.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Background
High School diploma or GED equivalent or current Child Development Associate (CDA) Certification while currently working towards an Associate's in Early Childhood Education or related field and experience equivalent with young children. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Knowledge of basic educational program principles and practices. Knowledge of proper handling procedures for food. Knowledge of developmentally appropriate activities. Skill in applying appropriate communication skill to maintain classroom control. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with young children, staff and parents. Normal classroom environment. May be required to lift, push, and pull office equipment and materials. Must be able to stoop, bend, squat, sit on floor and ambulate over uneven floor surfaces including stairs and steps. Must be able to visually and auditory assess situations to insure health and safety. Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Light maintenance such as shoveling, sweeping, mopping, throwing of trash, and others may be needed. May be required to work additional hours or days depending on circumstances.
