Position Title: Instructional Assistant 2- Automotive Employment Requirement Criminal Background Check - C4 Division/Department: Automotive Technology Location Advanced Transportation Technology Center, Lebanon, OR Job Summary:
Assists and supports Automotive Technology instructor(s) in providing one-to-one instruction to individual students. Supports the department with lab maintenance, organization, parts and supply ordering, and day-to-day operations of setup for demonstrations and labs. Helps maintain a safe, clean, and orderly shop area. Assists all students and faculty in using safe practices in completion of class projects. Models safe practices and professional behavior at all times.
Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience: Position requires an AA/AS degree in an automotive, diesel, or related technical discipline or equivalent industry experience in a similar field. One-year full-time related industry experience with fluency in auto mechanics and systems or equivalent technical area. Prefer a basic understanding of machining and welding practices. Minimum of two years full-time related industry experience that may have resulted in a recognized industry certification is preferred. A minimum of one-year experience working with training employees in the industry is desirable.
Certificates and Licenses: Requires valid Oregon driver's license. Must acquire and maintain an industrial fork lift certification within 30 days of employment. ASE certification is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: Must have a working knowledge of instructional techniques and skills sufficient to instruct and tutor students on an informal level. Must possess technical knowledge and manual skills in the specific laboratory areas of auto mechanics. Must be familiar with current shop equipment and related hand tools. Requires working knowledge of safety practices, OSHA regulations, and operation of shop equipment and vehicles. Basic computer competency. Strong communication and organizational skills are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Abilities: Possess the ability to set up and maintain a laboratory environment and related equipment in a safe, clean, and functional manner. Ability to independently set up student projects as assigned. Must be able to work independently and willing to take initiative without immediate supervision. Must be able to instruct students in the use of industry equipment, supplies, and personal protective equipment in accordance with industry standards. Some ability to weld or heat treat using oxy-fuel equipment. Ability to work with students one-to-one and in small groups. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work Environment & Conditions: Work is performed in a fully equipped automotive shop that closely mirrors a dealership environment, along with attached classrooms. Safety and health hazards exist as in a normal shop environment. Interruptions, distractions and/or irregularities in work schedule are expected and occur intermittently. Changes and advancements in the automotive industry and lab environment require occasional upgrading of skills. Requisite skills are required to operate equipment and tools.
Physical Requirements: Requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate equipment and the physical ability to stand for extended periods of time while working in a shop environment. Requires hearing and speaking skills sufficient to communicate with staff and students. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and operate shop machines and measuring instruments. Requires ability to lift and manipulate light to medium weight materials (10 to 50 pounds). Position involves frequent bending, standing, kneeling, reaching below and above shoulders, and lifting objects weighing up to 50 lbs. while performing job duties.

* Monitors student work and ensures they follow proper safety procedures and the use of personal protective equipment at all times.
* Assistsstudents with lab assignment activities and projects, monitors the selection and proper use of materials, tools, and equipment.
* Prepares labs by setting up the correct materials, tools, training aides, and machines. May assist staff in developing instructional materials and proctoring exams.

About the Position
This position may provide tutoring, instruction, behavior management through social/emotional support, supervision, and clerical support, and may be required to adapt curriculum and instruction for students whose primary language is other than English. This position may provide support for students with medically fragile needs.
