The WIPP underground facilities comprise a mine constructed and maintained at a depth of 2,150 feet below the surface within the Salado Formation found in southeastern New Mexico. The formation also includes a number of clay seams (layers) at various depths throughout the formation. The underground facility (the mine) serves as a permanent storage facility for transuranic nuclear waste which is a by-product of the nation's nuclear weapons production programs.

Conducting field investigations, such as overseeing drilling activities and the design and installation of monitor wells and production wells.
Collecting soil samples, water level measurements, and groundwater, surface water, and stormwater samples.
Analyzing data and preparing technical reports.
Working on project teams with professionals who are motivated to provide high quality services to our clients.
This position may require travel and requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and work in adverse weather conditions. GENERAL PURPOSE:
The student intern program is for high school seniors interested in a career in city government. Students will select one department they are most interested in and will be assigned accordingly. While school is in session, the department will accommodate the student's educational and extracurricular schedules. Students may work up to a maximum of 600 hours during the program period.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Greet visitors and/or City employees; provides assistance in directing individuals appropriately.
Answers phone, takes messages, and/or gives information to the public.

Assists at counter to meet, greet and assist public in registration of various documents. Obtains copies of documents and collects fees. Inputs information into computer for indexing purposes.

Makes copies of and/or scans correspondence or other printed materials.
Reads and routes incoming mail. Locates and attaches appropriate file to correspondence to be answered by employer.
Addresses envelopes or packages. Stuff envelopes by hand.
Prepares outgoing mail and correspondence, including e-mail and faxes; distributes mail and incoming faxes.
Takes dictation/minutes and transcribes notes on computer, or transcribes from voice recordings. Composes and types routine correspondence.
Organizes and maintain file system, and files correspondence and other records.
