As part of the professional veterinary curriculum, colleges encourage off-campus educational experiences in practices outside of the teaching hospital. Practical experience in a well-run and contemporary practice can be a valuable component of your veterinary education, preparing you to deliver better care after graduation. Our program is dedicated to contributing to your practice-readiness and to help you hit the ground running after graduation. Our program structure: Our externships are flexible-they can range from two to eight weeks during the year, according to your college curriculum - but are typically two or three weeks in length. OPD is seeking individuals interested in indigent defense to join our summer Investigative Internship program. The Orleans Public Defenders Office provides holistic, community-based representation in New Orleans. We represent thousands of people each year utilizing a client-centered team model that puts the client first and takes a 360-degree approach to our advocacy and representation. Our diverse staff includes adult and juvenile attorneys; social workers; client, youth and parent advocates; investigators, and administrators-all working together for equal justice for our clients, their families, our community, and a better New Orleans. WHAT YOU'LL DO: Interns in OPD's program assist staff investigators with case preparation and investigation on misdemeanor and felony criminal cases in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court, Municipal Court, and Juvenile Court. An intern investigator's work will directly impact the outcome of a client's pending criminal case while increasing the quality of representation and meeting our mission and vision. Intern investigators work with staff investigators to do the comprehensive and independent investigation that every client is entitled to by law. This leads to the timely progression of cases through the criminal justice system and less time innocent clients sit in jail awaiting their day in court. Interns are involved in all aspects of criminal defense investigation-both field and office related activities-and will frequently assist with other aspects of case and trial preparation. Changes to the Work: Identify and provide timely notice of changed conditions, prepare Change Order Proposals (COPs), maintain a COP log, generate subcontract modifications, and update as-built drawings. Coordination: Assist the Superintendent with subcontractor and supplier coordination, expedite material deliveries, and identify special inspection requirements. Payment: Help develop the Schedule of Values, compile data for monthly payment applications, assist in reviewing subcontractor/supplier payments, and ensure proper cost coding of invoices. Punchlist: Create and distribute punchlists for incomplete/deficient work, follow up with subcontractors, and secure project acceptance by the architect and owner. Our internship is designed for candidates who are sales oriented and interested in sales or management. Our highly structured 10-12 week introductory course is paid and will provide candidates a working knowledge of the industry by exposing them to all aspects of the electrical distribution field through a combination of mentoring and on-the-job training.
