Interns are scheduled with a senior veterinarian committed to your mentorship. This allows for the presentation of cases and feedback as you are seeing patients. You will also have primary case responsibility within the 1st month and will be cutting surgical cases as your experience develops.
The interns across all locations will join for orientation, a symposium retreat, surgical training, and weekly didactic rounds. This collaboration allows for improved continuing education through journal clubs, grand rounds, case rounds as well as a larger community of interns.
By the end of the internship year, you will be well-versed in most emergency medicine presentations and be proficient in typical ER skills, procedures, and surgeries. At completion of the internship, you will be highly marketable and capable of comfortably going into any emergency veterinary facility with the tools needed to succeed
The ER Academy provides a structured program with diminishing oversight to develop competent emergency veterinary clinicians learning clinical and interpersonal skills.
Starting your first day on the clinic floor, ER Academy immerses you in emergency medicine as the primary clinician seeing a wide range of cases. Interns are integral to the hospital team and can expect to work most weekends and holidays to maximize their internship experience. You are scheduled on shift with a senior clinician dedicated to mentoring and ensuring your success while allowing you to be an independent doctor. The program features phased oversight, with no shifts working alone for at least the first six months.
You will be supervised in surgery with the goal of being competent in emergency soft tissue surgeries such as C-sections, pyometra, gastrotomies, enterotomies, R&As, GDV/gastropexies, splenectomies, cystotomies, and sometimes amputations.

Summary: This position is responsible for using sound professional judgement and best practices to ensure quality services are provided to the service population, especially in crisis situations while maintaining compliance with established state and federal standards.

Essential Functions:
1. Assesses personal mental health needs of clients; helps to meet those needs by providing counseling services and referrals.
2. Implements Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with adults, couples, family, adolescent, and child clientele.
3. Offers in office, virtual, or community-based therapy for counseling as appropriate.
4. Facilitate or co-facilitate peer support groups.
5. Serve as hotline operator during scheduled rotation; with support of assigned licensed clinician.
6. Participates in outreach events as assigned.
7. Develops detailed individual Treatment Plans for each client and regularly assesses progress, providing updates to the Treatment Plan as needed.
8. Maintains timely and accurate file documentation and data entry that meets the program requirements.
9. Report any suspected abuse or neglect to supervisor and all appropriate state and county enforcement agencies within 24 hours.
10. Meet all deadlines required by Program Director, Lead Clinician, or state/federal partners.
11. Maintains own schedule of office/virtual sessions, special events, and outreach events.
12. Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-services trainings, and weekly case consultations if required for contract needs.
13. Identifies and maintains professional relationships with clients and community partners.
14. Perform Crisis Intervention techniques to ensure youth are safe.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.
Measurable Deliverables:
1. Meets all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards that are applicable to this position.
2. Completes client intake assessment; analyzes to determine client needs and Treatment Plan goals and objectives.
3. Attend weekly supervision with program director or lead clinician.
4. Develops, monitors, and reviews with individual an action plan designed to increase strengths, address needs, and reduce conflict in the home.
5. Assists in providing information for all files and program documentation, including, quarterly and monthly reports, data entry and other documentation or reports as needed, with accuracy and timeliness.
6. Locate community resources to meet additional client needs.
7. Coordinates/participates in resource fairs in the community as assigned.
8. Enters required ETO data for all clients within 72 hours of client contact and submit monthly reports as specified by Program Director.
9. Compiles, prepares, submits and maintains accurate records, files, forms and additional information in accordance with agency policies, licensing and/or contract requirements.
10. Implement BCFS safety protocols including evacuating with children and other staff in case of an emergency.
11. Maintain confidentiality in all areas of the service population and program operations.
12. Maintain BCFS HHS professional and ethical standards of conduct outlined in the BCFS employee handbook including demonstrating respect for agency staff, the service population, and community members and complying with the required dress code at all times.
Credentials, Skills and Abilities:
1. Pass a pre-employment drug screen, random drug screens and always maintain emotional control and professional composure.
2. Provides proof of work eligibility status upon request.
3. Pass a pre-employment and biennial criminal background and motor vehicle check
(fingerprints needed if applicant has lived out of state within the past 5 years)
4. Maintain liability insurance throughout their practicum/ internship experience(s).
5. Students are expected to be enrolled in a graduate-level practicum/internship course
throughout the duration of their practicum experience(s).
6. Demonstrate the ability to:
a. Respond sensitively and competently to the service population's cultural and
socio-economic characteristics.
b. Communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
c. Work in a fast paced environment.
d. Maintain computer literacy required to meet the responsibilities of the position.
e. Work effectively and without intensive supervision both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
f. Travel as needed.
g. Manage time effectively and efficiently.

What we're looking for: The New Braunfels Parks and Recreation Department has an opportunity for a highly motivated undergraduate or graduate student seeking to develop experience in parks and recreation management, specifically in the areas of park planning, design, and development. The Intern will assist the Park Development Manager, Assistant Director, and Director with special projects and clerical tasks to improve the effectiveness of park development, service delivery, and general operations.
The responsibilities you'll be trusted with:

Assists in ensuring the consistent delivery of excellent customer service to citizens and visitors.
Responds to public inquiries and provides customer service in person and via telephone; provides information to the public; receives and directs calls and walk-in customers to appropriate personnel or department; completes program registrations and facility bookings; takes messages as necessary.
Communicates in a timely and professional manner with citizens, visitors, City employees, vendors, contractors, applicants, and the public, representing the best interests of the City, anticipating needs, and resolving customer service inquiries and other issues.
Monitors office and is active in presenting an organized, comfortable, safe, and welcoming environment, responsible for reporting maintenance concerns.
Conducts a variety of general reception office duties including data entry, filing, and copying documents, preparing correspondence and receipt of deliveries.
Provides assistance to Parks and Recreation Department staff in updating and maintaining departmental documents including personnel records, forms, logs and spreadsheets.

The preliminary work plan includes the following:
Park Development Tasks (35%)
Support the development, compilation, and implementation of the Systemwide Parks & Recreation Master Plan.
Support the development of concepts and schematic designs for a variety of park and trail improvements.
Support ground-breaking, ribbon-cutting, and grand opening events.
Provide general support to coordination of park and trail development projects.
Project Archive and Record Retention Tasks (35%)
Review and organize project archives.
Digitize project files as necessary.
Miscellaneous Support Tasks (30%)
Provide support with projects, programs, and events to be determined based on need and incumbent's interest.
The internship work plan may be modified to fit the skills of the incumbent and respond to the needs of the Department.

Education and Experience:
At least four (4) semesters of undergraduate coursework in field of study related to the internship, such as parks and recreation, landscape architecture, planning, natural resource management, public administration, or a closely related field. The internship is designed for current undergraduate or graduate students fulfilling an internship or other curriculum requirement.
Preferred Experience:
Work experience in an office or professional environment. (The work experience may have been earned as a volunteer or intern.)
Strong writing and communication skills. This will be evaluated through your application materials.
Strong organizational and decision-making skills.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess a valid Driver's License.
Required Knowledge of, or Ability to Learn:
