The Position
Under direct supervision, perform a variety of water quality monitoring, maintenance, and research tasks, field support work, and assist in preparation of reports and studies as assigned, working directly with professional and technical staff in assigned areas. Student Interns will perform meaningful, productive, and challenging work by making significant contributions to projects, research, or other primary District functions. Student Interns will receive hands on training emphasizing teamwork, independence, and development of technical skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Conducts a variety of sampling methods including water and biological specimens; delivers samples to IRWD or contract laboratories.
Conducts basic field and laboratory tests including: electrical conductivity (EC), pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), turbidity, and temperature; using sondes, microscopes, global positioning system (GPS) units, and other basic field equipment.
Prepares and analyzes water quality data using Microsoft Excel, Access, and other data management software; calculates removal efficiency; hydraulic retention time, as well as other common water calculations.
Conducts regularly scheduled site inspections of District wetland facilities, including monitoring of wildlife at each site.
Assists in the identification of various plants, animals, and other biota in Southern California natural habitats, and differentiates non-native species from native species.
Interprets regulatory documents and applies them to the natural treatment of surface water and associated habitats.
Assists in the design and establishment of new natural treatment wetland sites throughout the District's service area, including restoration of degraded wetlands.
Reads and interprets construction plans.
Performs various field labor tasks, including but not limited to raking, shoveling, lifting and adjustment of weir boards.
Coordinates work with other District departments, including Engineering, Water Quality, and Water Resources.
Understand and implement the District's safety policies and procedures.
Attends meetings as needed.
Complies with District safety work-related practices and attends relevant safety training.

At the time of appointment, active enrollment as a student in an institution of higher learning at either the undergraduate or graduate level with coursework in at least one of the following areas: Biology, Chemistry, Ecology, Environmental Science, or Natural Resources Management is required.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Together with community members and park advocates, the Capital and Planning Division strives to create and renovate parks that solve social problems and enhance community resilience.
The Planning Unit The Planning Unit, within the Capital and Planning Division, plans for the future of our open spaces and works on a wide range of projects that support open space improvements, development, and park acquisitions, as well as a variety of land use issues related to the City's park system.

Projects are funded through multiple sources including general obligation bonds, a property tax set aside (Open Space Fund), grants, and philanthropic donations.

Our program structure:
Our externships are flexible-they can range from two to eight weeks during the year, according to your college curriculum - but are typically two or three weeks in length. Your schedule will include days, evenings and weekends.
Our externship rotations are designed to allow students, under veterinary supervision, to practice the problem-solving, technical and communication skills that they have acquired during their clinical preparation. Externs experience the typical caseload of a small animal practice. SUMMARY:
The MSW Internship position will participate as a member of the Clinical Department, and support the flow and responsibilities of Access Center Programming, Case Management, and Health and Wellness Therapy. The MSW Internship will offer participants the opportunity to to work in a professional setting to develop and demonstrate skills in social work, to integrate the theories and practices learned in and out of the classroom, to develop an understanding of the diversity of a community population and the role of diversity in social work practice. This role will aid in supporting frontline staff in day to day operations, and will also receive a caseload of members working towards a variety of goals. The first half of the internship will focus on developing skills in case management, documentation, assessments, and working in a high pace Access Center. The 2nd half of the internship will continue in this trajectory, but will also focus on further developing clinical skills, providing interns with an opportunity to conduct 1:1 therapy services to a small caseload, help plan and facilitate therapy groups, and participate in various training sessions. Throughout the program, interns will receive one-on-one support from Field Instructor, and on-going support from Clinical Supervisor, Health and Wellness Therapists, as well as group-based professional development classes.

Participate in SPY's orientation and in-service training programs for professional staff and volunteers as needed

SUMMARY:
The BioMarin Summer Internship Program will enable students to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the processes and systems within BioMarin, while gaining an insight into the pharmaceutical/biotech industry.
The Clinical Pharmacology group is responsible for the design, execution, interpretation, and reporting of nonclinical and clinical pharmacology aspects of BioMarin's development and commercial pipeline. This includes the assessment of PK/PD relationships of small molecule, biologic and gene therapy drug candidates that are situated throughout all stages of development(Phase 0-IV). Team members are responsible for the planning, implementation, and organization of regulatory filings along with presentation of clinical pharmacology data to internal cross-functional teams, external collaborators, US and ex-US regulatory authorities and the scientific community.
JOB DESCRIPTION/PROJECT:
The Clinical Pharmacology Intern will be responsible for the design, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of PK/PD studies in support of molecules in nonclinical and clinical development. This individual will work with Clinical Pharmacology leaders on projects and provide support in designing the Clinical Pharmacology strategy with an emphasis on dose and regimen selection. The assignment will be related to core clinical pharmacology activities with specific tasks targeted to answer key development questions and achieve short-term goals for the department. The assignment will span a period of 10-12 weeks concluded with an internal presentation of results of project to leadership & publish the findings at a scientific conference.
Required Skills:
* Strong training in PK/PD analyses with a preference for population-based modeling and simulation
* Extensive hands-on experience with non-compartmental and compartmental PK/PD analysis software
* Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
Desired Skills:
* Experience in clinical/nonclinical PK/PD study design, implementation, and interpretation
* Ability to work in a matrix environment and with different leadership styles
Qualifications/Eligibility:
* Graduate level student with a strong interest in Clinical Pharmacology, Pharmacokinetics, PK/PD Modeling and Simulation
* Student must be returning to school in the Fall Term OR has graduated within the 1 year of the start of the program
* Must be available to work 40 hours a week
* Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
