ABOUT THE EXTERNSHIP
VEG's Veterinary Technician Student Externship Program gives vet tech students hands-on experience in emergency medicine while working alongside our credentialed, emergency veterinary technicians. Students will focus on honing their emergency skills including obtaining patient vitals, processing laboratory samples, caring for hospitalized patients, triaging emerging cases, and collaborating in a fast-paced environment. If you're as interested in emergency medicine as we are, we'd love to have you!
Note: This is an unpaid externship and rabies vaccinations are required unless your school's rabies mitigation policy allows you to be unvaccinated and still handle unvaccinated pets.

* Attend child and family team meetings on assigned cases, review treatment coordination of treatment interventions for child and family teams.
* Assist in the clinical training and therapeutic skill development of direct Care Workers including clinical training on theory, diagnoses, intervention strategies and interactive styles/patterns.
* Consistently exercise sound, independent judgment and adequate emotional stability in evaluating situations and making decisions despite the pressures of deadlines or the occurrence of unexpected stressful events.

Typical Duties:
Initiation and Continuation of Counseling Services
* Respond to emails from potential clients within 24 hours after being assigned by the Clinic Office Manager
* Schedule all his/her counseling sessions
* Send a reminder email of all counseling appointments 24 hours in advance
* Monitor their ACU email account to respond to current clients' emails within 48 hours
Clinical Documentation
* Maintain client files according to state law, AAMFT Code of Ethics, and ACU MFT Clinic Procedures
* Perform an initial intake and assessment, including suicide risk
* Write progress notes for each session within 24 hours according to the format used by the ACU MFT Clinic
* Assess various presenting issues faced by individuals, families, and couples using standardized assessments
* Work with the client to form a treatment plan by no later than the third (3rd) session, and monitor the client's progress.
* Perform a treatment plan review every 8th session.
Clinical Supervision
* Participate in weekly individual and group supervision (Review of recordings of live sessions, case conceptualizations, case presentations)

The Family Therapist/”Shadow” shall be responsible for conducting an intake session
with the identified client and primary caregivers or guardians/parents upon admission.
The Family Therapist/”Shadow” will provide the following services:
Weekly therapy sessions with parents/caregivers,
One individual therapy session per week with clients,
Facilitate weekly group therapy in the field,
Provide weekly reports to clergy, education consultants, therapists or other referring professionals upon request and approval from the client and caregivers.
The Family Therapist/”Shadow” shall prepare and complete all necessary treatment plans and documentation in a timely manner.

Complete weekly progress notes for all sessions with clients and caregivers within 5 days,
A discharge summary and aftercare plan given to participants and caregiver/parents at the end of the field program.
The Family Therapist/”Shadow” shall
Provide clinical support to TrailWalkers in the field,
Participation in PIQA meetings, direct care team meetings and clinical staffing meetings
Participation in weekly on call schedule.

The Family Therapist/Shadow shall be responsible for conducting an intake session
with the identified client and primary caregivers or guardians/parents upon admission.
The Family Therapist/Shadow will provide the following services:
Weekly therapy sessions with parents/caregivers,
One individual therapy session per week with clients,
Facilitate weekly group therapy in the field,
Provide weekly reports to clergy, education consultants, therapists or other referring professionals upon request and approval from the client and caregivers.

Psychosocial within 72 hours of admission

Complete weekly progress notes for all sessions with clients and caregivers within 5 days,
A discharge summary and aftercare plan given to participants and caregiver/parents at the end of the field program.

Provide clinical support to TrailWalkers in the field,
Participation in PIQA meetings, direct care team meetings and clinical staffing meetings
Participation in weekly on call schedule.
