Student Nurse Intern, Medical Surgical Units

Under the supervision of the RN, provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to patients in the hospital setting and designated outpatient departments by performing the following duties, supporting the nursing philosophy. Partner with a RN to provide exposure to clinical experiences that will reinforce theory and prepare them for their roles as RN. May include weekends, holidays, day, evening, night, and/or on-call hours. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

* Graduate of High School or GED
* Enrolled in an accredited, or accredited eligible, RN program , in academic good standing and have no more than 2 semesters to complete until program completion

Certification/Licensure

* Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days

Position Summary: The Nurse Extern delivers high quality, patient-centered care by performing a variety of delegated basic patient care services related to common nursing functions and activities of daily living. Under the supervision of the registered nurse (RN), the Nurse Extern assists the nursing staff in providing patient care in accordance with the Nurse Extern's skills/training and the needs of the Department, and consistently assists the patient care team with maintaining a clean, well-organized, and safe patient care environment. The Nurse Extern is currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of nursing and can perform higher-level procedures once competency is achieved.

Position Requirements:

Licensure/Certification/Registration: BLS with AHA or ARC required

Education: Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of nursing

Experience: 1+ years of nursing school completed

Special Qualifications: Knowledge of basic clinical practices, procedures, and standards. Ability to work with others as a team to ensure quality patient care. Basic knowledge of computer systems and good interpersonal skills. Strong critical thinking skills.
