GENERAL PURPOSE
The Staff Development - RN position performs health care training, provides direct instruction, and assists with in-service program development and administration. Responsibilities include the coordination of an in-service educational program, including managing the training needs and provisions with other institution staff, as well as conducting training sessions.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
This position exercises limited supervision during orientation and training over the following job classifications: Unit Clerk, Certified Nurse Aide (CNA), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), and Registered Nurse (RN).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION
Develops, schedules, and presents in-service courses for professional, technical, and ancillary personnel of the nursing service, including ongoing courses of study and singular topics.
Conducts formal nurse's aide programs. Reviews new employee performance by observing behavior in sessions, discussing progress, and working with them in lab and on the nursing units. Holds conferences, evaluates progress, and makes basic assessments of skills acquisition.
Makes notes of progress and identifies problems and other situations utilizing the Gracedale probationary performance evaluations and the individual program evaluation tools. Discusses evaluations with higher-level nursing instruction staff and recommends alternative courses of action. Manipulates employee's orientation schedule in order to meet their individual needs.
Provides ongoing evaluation of nursing staff as needed.
Presents general orientation sessions for all employees and extended orientation sessions for all new nursing service staff.
Presents training and retraining sessions on topics such as the implementation of new patient care policies and procedures, infection control, safety, new nursing equipment, and other subjects. Assists floor nurses with troubleshooting and/or procedures as necessary.
Identifies books and other instructional materials for use in in-service programs. Designs, writes, copies and/or otherwise produces handouts and other training materials for use in training sessions. Develops, or assists in the design of, examinations for courses.
Coordinates schedules and training efforts with department heads and other institution staff. Recommends programs, schedules, make-up sessions, and other activities to ensure established program is carried out. Maintains a comprehensive electronic tracking system which captures attendance, performance, and other records in order to prepare reports of activities and results for use by facility administration, State or other regulatory agencies.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE - Graduation from an accredited school of nursing; AND
At least two (2) years of satisfactory full-time experience in professional nursing as a Registered Nurse (RN). One (1) year in long-term care preferred. This includes meeting resident's needs through direct care, supervision, or education; AND
At least one (1) year of full-time, or full-time equivalent, professional work experience in an educator role preferred; AND
Possession of a current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Pennsylvania; AND
Must complete Feeding Program training.
LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE (LPN) CANDIDATES - Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) candidates may be hired in this role if they meet the following requirements:
* Must be currently attending an accredited school with one (1) year remaining until Registered Nurse (RN) license is obtained. Proof of current enrollment status must be provided to Human Resources upon hire.
* Must possess a current and valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in Pennsylvania.
* Must provide documentation to Human Resources, within one (1) year of hire, of graduation and proof of Registered Nurse (RN) license in Pennsylvania. Failure to obtain licensure within one (1) year of hire shall be just cause for removal from the position, or termination of employment.

COMHAR's Outpatient Restoration Long Term Structured Residence (ORLTSR) has an immediate opening for an Part-Time Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse for our Staff Nurse position.
Staff Nurse Responsibilities:
The Licensed Practical Nurse works from a recovery framework within the team providing health and wellness care, medication education, group psycho education, therapeutic interventions (evidenced based practices preferred), cultural competence and trauma informed care to help individuals obtain their recovery goals.
Provision of assistance to residents who are unable to self-administer medication. Supervision of self-administered medication when indicated. Injection of medication when prescribed. Participation in education of residents regarding their medications, including assisting residents who are unable to self-administer medication to become able to do so.
Participation in multi-disciplinary treatment team meetings as assigned.
Participation in Quality Improvement Program as assigned.
Timely reporting of all crises and unusual incidents to Nurse Manager and LTSR Director (Immediately if indicated; otherwise within 24 hours). Immediate reporting of psychiatric and medical crises to Psychiatrist.
Compliance with all internal and external requirements and regulations regarding record keeping and recording.
Observance of Universal Precautions in administering medications, disposing of needles, and handling waste products, etc.
Provision of direct service to residents, including assistance with personal hygiene, bathing/showering and all other tasks of daily living as needed.
Leading activities with residents, including educational, social, and leisure programs for which residents' input is elicited. Participating in community integration activities as needed.
Regular and relevant documentation in clinical chart and utilizes other designated forms.
Attendance at all meetings and training sessions as assigned.
Reporting of all non-emergent shift and shift personnel problems to Nurse Manager and/or LTSR Director in timely and accurate manner.
In the event of a staff call out, works to secure appropriate coverage via existing team members or other contracted/approved temporary staff organizations.
Compliance with all COMHAR policies and procedures with no unauthorized exception.
Staff Nurse Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear others and accurately interpret speech and sounds. Frequently required to stand; walk; climb and descend stairs. Required to use hands and arms to reach, hold and carry objects. Required to sit; stand, maintain balance; occasionally lift and/or move up to 150 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception & ability to adjust optical focus for reading, driving, general observation and for all safety needs.

Follows the services outlined in each resident's service plan in a friendly and supportive manner. Documents any observed change of condition in accordance with local rules and regulations and policies.
Communicates with Director, Health and Wellness on resident needs on an as needed basis to ensure consistent quality services.
Participates in providing hands on care and specific nursing tasks as required and in support of the resident's care plan. Reviews care plans and ensures the plan meets with resident's specific level of support as required by state regulations.
Provides clinical support and training of care staff in support of continuing education requirements for care staff.

Provides specific review of Medication Administration Records (MARs) and review of the Daily Report to ensure appropriate clinical interventions are implemented and reviewed on those residents on alert or with acuity changes. Other CQI tasks may be assigned by the Director, Health and Wellness or Executive Director as required.
Follows all local, state and federal rules and regulations as they apply to services delivered for all residents. This involves resident care and documentation and compliance with HIPAA, OHSA, and Blood Borne Pathogen Guidelines.
Works in a safe manner, supports other employees in working in a safe manner, and corrects unsafe actions. Compliant with Safety Committee Standards. Should workplace injuries occur, when required, assists the Executive Director and Director, Health and Wellness with the investigation, return to work, and management of the injured worker communication with care provider and Management Company.
Fosters teamwork with co-workers, shows initiative in overcoming obstacles, takes actions which assists others beyond job responsibilities, and has a positive impact on co-workers, residents, and visitors.
