The incumbent has responsibility for the oversight of studies that explore complex medical diseases, which involve specialty and subspecialty expertise. The incumbent serves as clinical nursing knowledge role model in the care of research participants, performing clinical procedures and assessments of research participants that are appropriate within the RN scope of practice. In conjunction with the PI and other facility/clinic staff, s/he may provide direct patient care related to a research protocol.
**Essential Key Job Responsibilities**
+ Perform clinical assessments of research participants, including blood pressure, heart and respiratory rates, brief physical exams, EKGs, and other clinical testing appropriate within the RN scope of practice, i.e., NIH Stroke Scale, NYHA and CCS class.

Under the direct supervision of the Health Center Manager and in-direct clinical supervision of Nursing Administration, the Clinical Services Supervisor (CSS) shall perform licensed nursing duties under scope of practice, oversee back office clinical competency and performance, maintain and operate medical and laboratory equipment, assist in the treatment and care of patients, including performing physically demanding assignments. With the collaboration of the Health Center Manager, the CSS will oversee the Medical Assistant clinical competency and performance. It is expected that the CSS will mentor, teach, and provide in-service training of the back office staff. Additionally, with collaboration of the Health Center Manager, the CSS will work to build schedules and coverage for the staffing needs of the clinic. The CSS will work with the Health Center Manager to ensure the oversight or ordering of needed supplies and clinical equipment. It is the responsibility of the CSS in collaboration with the Health Center Manager to ensure staff are versed and compliant with regulatory standards. The CSS is expected to know the California scope of practice for the back office staff and ensure safety for patients.

Initiates a multidisciplinary, family-centered, goal oriented care plan for each pediatric patient in collaboration with members of the health care team and provides care based on that plan.
* Educates patients and families/caregivers regarding the pediatric patient's care to include in-hospital care as well as care after discharge. Uses teaching methods appropriate to the condition, culture, and assessed learning-readiness of the patient and parents/guardians.
