(We're so new that we're still finishing the details of our website. Our first classes begin on January 7, 2019.) WE PAY FASTER AND BETTER Some companies pay only once a month and make you wait 4 to 6 weeks from the end of your work cycle until you get paid. That's just mean! And then they pay by PayPal and expect you to eat the commission. We pay every 2 weeks, we pay promptly, and we can deposit your pay directly into your bank account. If you have a U.S. bank account, the amount you earn is exactly the amount you'll receive. If you bank anywhere else, an exchange rate will be applied by our foreign-exchange service, but we searched long and hard to find the best way to pay our teachers, so the exchange rates are amazingly good. If you prefer PayPal, though, we can use PayPal. GREAT HOURS Don't like teaching in the middle of the night? Great - neither do we! Our hours are really nice: Most of our classes are in the afternoon and evening, North American time, with a few morning and Saturday slots as well. If you teach at a local school during the day and want to make some extra money teaching online after school, we can work with you! EXCELLENT MATERIALS We provide excellent course materials - they're interactive, up-to-date, and include tests and homework. We expect you to enrich the material and motivate your students with your own enthusiasm, experience, and activities, just as you would in a traditional classroom setting, but you definitely won't be frustrated by the core curriculum! CLASS TYPES We provide classes to children as young as age 4 up to adults, and to people with any level of English skill. We offer three main types of classes: • Small classes of up to 12 students • Classes for little kids (4 to 6 students) • Individual classes Our classes run either 30, 50, or 80 minutes, which means you can take a nice 10-minute break if you're teaching classes back to back. (We know how crazy it is to try to run to the bathroom on a 2-minute break!) Our students can also optionally request tutoring sessions. These 25-minute sessions are designed to help students with homework (ours or their own) or to get clarity on any topics they may need help with. They'll be connected to whichever teachers are on call at that time; no prep or follow-up is required. Job Description We're looking for teachers with the know-how, personality, and (preferably) experience to turn online group or individual classes into a dynamic, fun learning experience. PAY STRUCTURE: Earn $10 to $33 / hour Our base pay is $10 per hour. Nobody earns less than that, but you can definitely earn more, up to $33 an hour. Your pay can increase on the basis of these factors: • Class size • English-teaching certifications or degrees • Your ESL/EFL experience, whether in-person or online • Ability to speak Spanish (a PLUS, but NOT a requirement) • Wowing us with your teaching demo • Your technical savvy • Positive feedback from your students • A consistent on-time record • Bonus opportunities YOUR SPACE You need to be able to teach every single time from a quiet place free from distracting sounds, people, and visual clutter. We'd like your background to look like a teaching environment - you can decorate your walls, or, if you're technologically savvy, you can use a green screen to create a virtual classroom environment. We'd be more than happy to help you with that. Does that mean we always expect you to connect from the same place? Nope. We're digital-nomad friendly. As long as you make sure you're always going to have enough bandwidth, a consistently professional presentation, and a quiet environment, we don't care if you want to teach from the moon (but if you do, please send us a moonrock). TECHNOLOGY We use Zoom for the video/audio aspect of our classes. Your internet connection should have enough bandwidth left over for you so that even while your housemates are downloading half of cyberspace, your computer gets 2 megabits upload and 2 megabits download speed. We'll ask you to do a bandwidth test and do a test call with us to make sure. You'll need a webcam that's at least 720p HD, and you get bonus points for having a 1080p/60fps webcam. You need a headset with microphone that sounds really good - but if you don't already have one, we'll help you find one. If you're not already familiar with Zoom, it has a lot of nice features that make it pretty easy and fun to deal with larger classes. Qualifications For consistency of pronunciation and grammar, our teachers must be native speakers of North American English (from the US or Canada). EDUCATION You should have completed or be in the process of completing a 4-year college degree in any field of study. As part of a cohort of 10-15 TLFs managed by a Teacher Leadership Coordinator (TLC), TLFs learn and grow alongside each other by rehearsing, reflecting on data, and taking responsive action. TLFs proactively communicate and collaborate with local teams and other staff members to intentionally support CM learning and development. Practical experience in a well-run and contemporary practice can be a valuable component of your veterinary education, preparing you to deliver better care after graduation. Our program is dedicated to contributing to your practice-readiness and to help you hit the ground running after graduation. Our program structure: Our externships are flexible-they can range from two to eight weeks during the year, according to your college curriculum - but are typically two or three weeks in length. Your schedule will include days, evenings and weekends. Our externship rotations are designed to allow students, under veterinary supervision, to practice the problem-solving, technical and communication skills that they have acquired during their clinical preparation. Externs are given the opportunity to work alongside our veterinary team and are encouraged to participate in all aspects of patient care. A stipend of $250 per week will be provided. What you'll be doing: Externs experience the typical caseload of a small animal practice. Under the supervision of your mentor doctor you will gather histories, perform physical examinations, develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans, scrub in to surgery, assist in the management of medical cases, provide wellness care, develop your client communication skills, polish your technical skills and produce appropriate medical records (SOAPs) within the time limits of daily practice.
