The Cell Culture Shared Resource, a part of Cell Biology Operations, supports research that develops new molecular tools and imaging technologies to illustrate neuronal circuits involved in organismal behaviors, and studies cellular, organellar, and molecular functions to understand how cells work and communicate across tissues and whole organisms. What You'll Do: Perform laboratory techniques such as thawing, freezing, passaging, transfecting, and counting of standard immortalized mammalian cells and non-mammalian cells. Create transient, stable transgene, and gene and genome edited cell populations and lines. Perform laboratory techniques to create, establish, and maintain primary cells from animal organs and tissues. Perform laboratory techniques to culture and maintain embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells as requested. Prepare media, buffers, and solutions used by the shared resource or other researchers for cell cultures. Operate and maintains equipment used for cell culture such as incubators, fluorescence and non-fluorescence microscopes, and cell counters. Maintain laboratory supply inventory and perform other duties as assigned. What You Bring: BS in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or other life science with two-four years of experience. Master's or graduate degree a plus. An equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered. Demonstrated proficiency in the care and maintenance of immortalized, primary, embryonic, and/or induced pluripotent cell lines. Demonstrated proficiency in monitoring culture quality and cell health conditions. Familiar with the use of light and fluorescent microscopes, cell counters, and incubators. Familiar with cell transfection methods (viral, chemical, electroporation), performing cell transfection, and knowledge of molecular biology (recombinant DNA, plasmids, etc.). Capable of rapidly adapting to handle a variety of specimens and projects, often in parallel. Ability to interact with co-workers and research staff at all levels. Ability to provide technical consultation on cell culture methods and protocol adaptation. Strong time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills. Communication skills to update team members, supervisors, and researchers on the status of work in progress. Capable of handling experimental animal species.
