The Department of Integrative Biology at Michigan State University invites applications from behavioral ecologist for one or more part-time, 12-month, fixed-term research associate positions with an 100% research assignment. Our interns work hands-on across two complementary tracks, Fundamental Research and Applied Research, depending on their interests and experience. What You'll Work On Foundation Models, Multi-Modal, Agents System benchmarking and performance optimization Track 1: Fundamental Research Research in foundation models for language, vision, life sciences and robotics. Multi-modal research, including building efficient data and evaluation toolkits. Publish findings in top-tier ML Research conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ICCV/ECCV, ACL, SIGGRAPH), and/or as technical blogs, public datasets, benchmarks, and open-source tools. Track 2: Applied Research Maximize training and inference performance for large-scale AI systems. Systematic model and agent evaluation. Publish findings in top-tier ML system conferences (e.g. MLSys, OSDI, SOSP, NSDI), and/or as technical blogs, public dataset, benchmarks, and open-source tools. You BS, MS, or Ph.D. student in Computer Science or related field, focusing on Machine Learning. Demonstrated project experience or publications in relevant areas. Each intern will have the opportunity to work with a group of biostatisticians and renowned clinical investigators to answer important questions impacting patient outcomes in cardiopulmonary resuscitation research. Interns will gain experience working in a multidisciplinary team, performing statistical programming (SAS or R), and communicating analysis results in both oral and written form. The internships will begin early in Summer 2026, working 20 hours/week throughout the summer and then cutting back to 10 hours/week when fall semester begins. The primary areas of responsibility may include the following: * Work collaboratively with investigators on study manuscripts with direction from the study biostatisticians. This includes creating Manuscript Analysis Plans (MAPs), reviewing/writing the manuscript, and tracking manuscript progress. * Create analysis datasets and associated dataset specifications. * Prepare and communicate study results in oral and written summary (e.g., tables, figures and reports), with direction from study biostatistics team as needed. * Review data for discrepancies and work with the study team to resolve discrepancies. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a Social or Behavioral Science, Liberal Arts, or a field related to the area of research, or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education); one year of experience in research and analytical techniques; demonstrated statistical and quantitative analysis experience; and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills required.
