Senior Nursing Student, Service Resource, PRN, Nights

Responsibilities



The Patient Care Technician provides basic patient care under nursing supervision and observes the patients' progress to report to the licensed nursing staff (RN and LVN's). The PCT will assist with patient care and comfort, hygiene and ADL's (Activities of Daily Living) including bed baths and/or showers, restroom assistance, nutrition/eating, obtain vital signs, and collect specimens for lab test. The PCT provides linen changes and basic housekeeping as needed for the patient, mobility, transport, and ensures patient safety with prompt response to patient request and call lights.

Patient coverage assignments are 10 - 15 patients per PCT based on unit census with some 1:1 patient coverage assignments as needed. The PCT will assist with the management and flow of the unit by assisting with admits, discharges, transfer/transport patients, electronic patient documentation, answers telephones, collect and delivers specimens.


The Resource team staff of Patient Care Technicians will primarily float to the medical surgical units of the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th floors.



Qualifications



Licenses and Certifications:
Minimum 18-yrs of age
High School diploma or GED preferred
CPR certified from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Previous hospital based Patient Care Assistant/Tech., Medical Assistant, EMT-B and/or CNA preferred but not required
Texas CNA certificate; current or previously held in good standing
Nursing students all levels
Acute care setting of patient drains, tubes, and specimen collection
Acute care setting of infection control protocols
Able to pass the BSA Acute Care Technical Skills Competency to include but not limited to: Manual Blood Pressure,
I & O Calculation, Measure Height and Weight, Glucose Monitoring
Ability to recognize important patient observations and communicate it to the appropriate team member
Ability to manipulate, position, transfer and ambulate various size patients both full assist or partial assist
Basic addition and subtraction skills required
Computer skills necessary; minimum 25wpm accurate EMR EPIC documentation
Medical terminology a plus
Prioritize multiple requests
Ability to multi-task constantly and tolerate multiple interruptions
Clear and effective communication (written and verbal) with patients, families and other healthcare professionals
Outgoing; friendly and compassionate customer service skills needed; must be committed to patient and family satisfaction

What You Will Do:


Reporting to the Executive Director of Academic Operations, the College Counselor participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of counseling and student development that result in educational, personal, and professional development of the nursing students and support the advancement of the college's vision, mission, and values. The College Counselor serves on a team of Student Central coaches, implementing an "intrusive advising program" that involves advising students at risk of failure for psycho-social reasons.


The Day-to-Day:


  • Participates in the Intrusive Advising program, managing a caseload of students, making systematic contract with them, and referring students to appropriate community programs
  • Assists in the planning, development and implementation of programs designed to encourage the success and retention of students
  • Serves as the campus resource for identifying appropriate counseling services and programs for students with psycho-social challenges
  • Participates in student orientation and registration
  • Cooperates with other services, programs, and departments in identifying and working with at-risk students
  • Develops workshops for at risk students aimed at addressing common psycho-social challenges that impede their success in the nursing program
  • Serves as Title IX Coordinator

Additionally, The College Counselor will also be required to teach one (1) general education course per semester (16 weeks). As an instructor, the expectations will be, but are not limited to:


  • Direct contact with students in instruction, training, and monitoring professional and academic development throughout their program
  • Instructor provides a learning experience to students and evaluates their achievements
  • Keep students engaged in a classroom environment while following an established curriculum / syllabus
  • Create positive educational climate for students to learn in while establishing and communicating clear objectives for all learning activities
  • Meet course and school-wide student performance goals
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by invoking approved disciplinary procedures
  • Observe and evaluate student's performance and counsel those who do not adhere to guidelines
  • Recognize and analyze outward signs of problems that students may have that inhibit their achievement and take appropriate action
  • Identify and students who are "at risk" of leaving the course to Chair of program
  • Grade tests and projects, maintain grade books, track attendance and perform other administrative duties as needed
