Position Summary
HCPA is a Title I Charter School that serves students through a school-wide plan for instruction that is focused on the needs of at-risk students. The High School ELL Teacher is responsible for instructing English language learners and supporting learning in the grade level(s) for which they are hired. An ELL Teacher creates a flexible classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth, instructs students in all language domains (speaking, listening, writing, and reading) and helps to make grade level and academic content comprehensible for students. Though a variety of instructional models, they motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a solid foundation for further education.
Responsibilities
Provide instruction in the core curriculum areas for which employed; make appropriate use of instructional resources and technologies.
Support the Minnesota Graduation and Common Core Standards; implement the goals and objectives of the District and the school and/or program to which assigned
Evaluate student performance in accordance with systems used by school and/or District; promote student achievement; maintain required student records; make related reports to the principal as prescribed or authorized by the superintendent.
Perform classroom management duties; enforce rules governing the conduct of students; take appropriate disciplinary action with students when necessary.
Provide differentiated instructional methods and content to ensure student mastery of content
Use data such as screening information, diagnostic information, progress monitoring data, and daily work samples to adjust and guide instruction, practice, and student feedback based on students' strengths and areas for growth.
Promote a learning environment that is welcoming, respectful, friendly and academically challenging
Maintain accurate records including but not limited to grades, assessments and lesson plans via HCPA's Learning management systems (currently Schoology and Seesaw) and/or PowerSchool
Via Schoology and/or Seesaw, ensure all online class resources are current.
Connect with families via phone calls, emails, conferences and school events
Foster a social environment with students to develop trust, respect, friendships and self-discovery
Participate in professional development meetings and professional learning communities providing student work when requested.
Implement new learning in the classroom following professional development.
Develop and work on new learning based on self-assessment, input from teacher leaders and director of teaching and learning.
Continuously seek opportunities to grow and learn as a professional.
Supervise student activities, which may include:
o Bus duty - assist with walking students to the busses at the end of the day
o Breakfast and/or lunch duty - assist with monitoring based on a rotational schedule

Required Qualifications
Current MN teaching license in English as a Second Language for grades K-12
BA or MA in ESL Education or other educational field; equivalent experience may be considered.
Strong skills in classroom presentation and management.
Knowledge of instructional technologies.
Knowledge of research and trends in teaching and student learning.
Ability to utilize computer and multimedia technology as appropriate.
Knowledge of the core curriculum areas the teacher is responsible for instructing, with a strong preference for candidates trained in LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) or those who have in experience with structured literacy and systematic, explicit instruction based in the science of reading in the areas of phonological awareness, phonics, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing, language comprehension.

This position may receive supplemental (add-on) pay adjustments for additional credits relevant to the position that are over and above the credits needed for certification. Job Details
This position is not eligible for remote work and will work on site. This is a year-round teaching position and is not seasonal.
This Job Opening recruits for multiple vacancies, so schedules may vary significantly based on the particular vacancy. Specifics can be discussed at time of interview. The most common schedule is Monday - Friday 7:45 AM - 4:30 PM. This position is FLSA Exempt.
This position is not anticipated to travel on a regular basis, but most DOC positions occasionally travel for training, meetings, conferences, or similar events.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet the Adult Basic Education (ABE) credentials determined by the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS).
Applicants must meet at least one of the four criteria listed below in order to be eligible to move forward in the selection process:
1) Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Elementary Education or Special Education.
2) Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Secondary Education in the area of English, Math, Reading, Science, or Social Studies
3) Bachelor's Degree (or higher) with a major or minor in English, Math, Reading, Science, or Social Studies
4) Bachelor's Degree (or higher) with 15 combined semester credits in English, Math, Reading, Science, or Social Studies.
In general, Health, Art, Music, or Physical Education coursework does not count as Math, Reading, English, Science, or Social Studies.
You must UPLOAD your Bachelor's Degree transcripts with your application or you may UPLOAD a copy of an active Teaching License issued by the State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (not just entering the number).
