JOB SUMMARY:
The Child Development Teacher I is responsible for providing educational experiences and child care services to pre-school age children in accordance with the State Department of Education, Title 5 & 22 guidelines, Department of Social Services, and Community Care Licensing, Division 12 regulations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan and set up a classroom environment according to program curriculum, documents on-going observation and assessments, including Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP), progress notes, and portfolio samples for the purpose of individualizing for each enrolled child.
Implements and ensures high quality teacher child interactions.
Develop daily lesson plans that reflect the goals of the curriculum and the individual needs of the children.
Provide a high quality, nurturing, and supportive classroom environment that supports children learning.
Organize and supervise activities to promote physical, mental, and social development.
Help keep center orderly by sharing cleaning responsibilities and duties
Review and plan classroom experiences and routines with teacher assistant.
Responsible for the quality and timeliness of work, meeting program deadlines, submitting monthly paperwork and reports, and conducting and documenting scheduled home visits and parent conferences with enrolled families.
Attend and prepare all requested documentation for IEP meetings, transition meetings, parent conferences and case conferences.
Work with teacher assistants to create a social and emotional climate of care and respect that promotes each child's sense of trust, independence and competence.
Supervise and evaluate teacher assistants, work with parents in planning activities to meet the individual needs of their child and supports volunteer efforts by helping parents and others feel comfortable and valued when assisting in the classroom.
Assist the teacher director and site supervisor with the supervision of children in their care by always being able to account for the children by consistently counting them throughout the day.
Ensure active supervision and safety and security of all children by maintaining visual supervision and an accurate census of children producible on demand and verifiable by count when requested by management, parents, or regulatory agencies.
Create a social and emotional climate of care and respect that promotes each child's sense of trust, independence and competence through Teaching Pyramid strategies.
Provide support to families parent/teacher conferences.
Participate in staff meetings and attend other meetings and seminars as directed.
Perform other duties as required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Associates Degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education from an accredited institution of higher education.
OR
Must have twenty-four (24) units in Early Childhood Education/Child Development (including core courses), plus sixteen (16) General Education units.
AND
A minimum experience of 175 days of 3 or more hours per day within 4 years in a child care center or setting.
Must possess/or apply for a Teacher's permit or a temporary county certificate within 30 days of hire, until permit from the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing is obtained and keep current by completing 25 hours of professional growth, annually.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Travel and attend out of area meetings and conferences as required per the funding source(s).

* * * SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Teacher Assistant(s) as assigned. Responsible for the educational development of each child in the class in accordance with established curriculum per Head Start Program Performance Standards, philosophy and mission.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Serves as classroom teacher to facilitate each child's growth in the key areas of social, emotional and cognitive development and cultural awareness by assessing each child's development and developing a program of study, which meets the child's individual needs. To this end, each teacher will be responsible for:
A. Completion of assessments on an on-going basis.
B. Preparation of an individualized plan for each child based on assessments and observations of the child.
C. Conferring with each parent three times throughout the year to discuss his/her child's growth and development, and establish school readiness goals.
D. Ensuring that the special needs of children with disabilities are being met appropriately. This includes active involvement in implementing goals noted in the child's Individual Education Plan (IEP) or Special Services Plan (SSP).
Provides a safe and healthy environment as required by Community Care Licensing regulations and Head Start Program Performance Standards.
Provides appropriate visual supervision of children at all times.
Creates an inviting and stimulating learning environment in an appropriately clean, healthy and safe condition with regular parent input.
Directly supervises and evaluates the assigned Teacher Assistant(s).
Assists with the supervision of the other Teacher Assistant(s) in regard to their classroom performance.
Trains the assigned Teacher Assistant(s), allowing and encouraging participation in activity planning and program implementation with input from supervisor. Encourages the Teacher Assistant(s) to learn and participate in all classroom, record-keeping and planning procedures.
Posts a Weekly Activity Plan the Friday before use, in accordance with Fresno EOC Head Start's curriculum.
Makes required home visits to each child's home at indicated periods during the school year, one of which must be prior to child entering program.
Prepares required records accurately and submit reports as required in a timely manner.
Provides a safe and healthy environment as required by Community Care Licensing regulations and Head Start Program Performance Standards.
Assist in the preparation, service and clean-up of meals and snacks.
Serves as a bus monitor, as assigned.
Serves as a substitute for other Teacher's classrooms as needed.
Occasionally will be required to work at additional centers/classrooms outside of regularly assigned classroom/center.
Attends and participates in conferences, meetings and trainings, as required.
Participates in IEP process for all Head Start children.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:
* High School graduate or GED.

EXPERIENCE:

Pass required reference checks and fingerprint clearance under Title 22 regulations: Department of Justice/FBI, Criminal Record Statement Child Abuse Central Index (CACI) and background investigation as needed prior to employment.
Infant/Child CPR/First Aid certification with at least 15 hours of training on preventive health practices required within 6 months of employment.
Former Head Start 0 to 5 parents preferred.
