"classroom management," "special education," and "student learning" aren't the only skills we found student teachers list on their resumes. In fact, there's a whole list of student teacher responsibilities that we found, including: Arguably the most important personality trait for a student teacher to have happens to be communication skills. An example from a resume said this about the skill, "teachers need to discuss students’ needs with parents and administrators" Additionally, other resumes have pointed out that student teachers can use communication skills to "engaged in professional development, communications with parents, student assessment and participation in staff meetings. " While it may not be the most important skill, we found that many student teacher duties rely on patience. This example from a student teacher explains why: "kindergarten and elementary school teachers must respond with patience when students struggle with material." This resume example is just one of many ways student teachers are able to utilize patience: "demonstrated patience and understanding while managing challenging children ensured that student homework assignments are reviewed, completed and corrected if necessary. " Another skill that is quite popular among student teachers is physical stamina. This skill is very critical to fulfilling every day responsibilities as is shown in this example from a student teacher resume: "working with kindergarten- and elementary-age students can be tiring" This example from a resume shows how this skill is used: "stimulated students in reading, mathematics, and language arts during physical education lessons" A student teacher responsibilities sometimes require "resourcefulness." We found that 69.7% of student teachers have graduated with a bachelor's degree and 12.8% of people in this position have earned their master's degrees. While most student teachers have a college degree, you may find it's also true that generally it's possible to be successful in this career with only a high school degree. In fact, our research shows that one out of every eight student teachers were not college graduates.
Those student teachers who do attend college, typically earn either elementary education degrees or education degrees. Less commonly earned degrees for student teachers include early childhood education degrees or general education, specific areas degrees.
