ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Uphold the YMCA of Montclair commitment to caring for individuals and families, with a focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility and basic principles of honesty, integrity, and a sincere commitment to our team members and our members. Use initiative to interact with teens, fostering a welcoming and safe environment. Adhere to check in and check out procedures daily with participants. Ensure smooth transition between activities with participants In collaboration with the Teen Department Lead to create and implement program activities with participants. Familiarity with and ability to implement emergency procedures. Champion gender and cultural diversity while successfully implementing and monitoring programs. Engage teens in a friendly and age-appropriate manner and communicate with parents as necessary after a conversation with the Teen Director. Maintain a safe work environment, free of clutter, debris and hazardous conditions. Report all accidents and incidents involving self, participants, guests or other employees. Perform all other duties as assigned. Adhere to policies related to boundaries with members, volunteers, staff, and participants. Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants. Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations and follow mandated abuse reporting procedures. Ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked, will routinely monitor high-risk locations (locker rooms and restrooms) etc. LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES: CORE Values Inclusion Quality Results Influence Communication & Inclusion Emotional Maturity QUALIFICATIONS: HS/GED required. Must be 23 years of age. Minimum two (2) years of experience working with teens and planning activities Must have a CPR/AED and First Aid Certification OR get certified within 90 days of employment. Excellent human relations, good organizational and communication skills. Must be able to follow directions and adhere to policies and procedures. WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Lifting and moving program equipment up to 50 lbs.
