The D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy Teacher plans and delivers instruction and assessments based on the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Instruction will enable students to learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development. This position will utilize a personalized student data management system to individualize learning experiences for students, designed to help them reach their fullest potential. Ongoing formative assessment will provide necessary data to inform instructional decisions and design appropriate interventions.
Teachers at D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy will operate as members of the school's kinship network, extended family unit. The kinship network will support the growth and development of all students. Staff will actively participate as members of professional learning communities with colleagues and faculty from the Watson College of Education.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Much of work is performed in the Thomas Academy with day students and residential students from Boys and Girls Homes of NC. Work can be stressful. Work responsibilities are performed in an office, classroom. Must have the ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for extended periods of time. Must have the ability to balance, climb, feel, grasp, kneel, lift, pull, push, stoop, and reach above shoulder level. 1. Deliver hands on educational programing to schools focused on environmental science grades 1st-12th

5. Provide direct supervision to youth while teaching and leading activities.
6. All other duties as assigned by the director.

Required

Experience working directly with young people in educational, recreational, or youth-focused environments.
Willingness to obtain certifications in First Aid and CPR, Lifeguarding, and Ropes or Challenge Course facilitation. Training and support will be provided.
Progress toward or completion of a degree in environmental science, education, youth development, outdoor recreation, or a related field. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
