The Youth Worker will assist in providing programs and services to young people in RHI's Youth Development & Socio-Emotional Learning Department. This Youth Worker position will facilitate workshops based on the needs of the program as a floater. Kids In Crisis is Connecticut's ONLY free, round-the-clock agency providing emergency shelter, crisis counseling and community educational programs for children of all ages and families dealing with a wide range of crises, including domestic violence, mental health and family problems, substance abuse, economic difficulties and more.
REPORTS TO: UC Program Director
*Full-Time and Part-Time positions open covering multiple shifts include Overnight, Weekday and Weekend*
RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, maintain and prepare weekly menus in line with Federal Standards
Transport/accompany clients to appointments and placements. Out of State travel via, agency vehicles, train or air.
Administer medication
Implement behavior management level system
Help create and maintain a positive therapeutic resident living environment (including shopping, meal preparation, cleaning, laundry and supervising resident activities)
Supervise, plan and facilitate activities including outside recreation for UC residents
Teaching activities of daily living (cooking, shopping, money management, etc.) to UC residents
Contributing to client case files
Model appropriate, positive social skills
Manage safety of shelter; implement fire and evacuation drills
Maintain call logs and other paperwork
Perform bed checks each 30 minutes at night if on night shift
Follow all KIC and ORR policies and procedures
Collaborating with a talented multidisciplinary team to find innovative solutions for engaging and working with the UC residents
Successful completion of agency trainings including but not limited to TCI, Med Administration, Phone Training, Crisis Intervention, Sexual Assault Crisis Training ,ORR P&Ps, KIC P&Ps, UC program P&Ps
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in education, social work, or related field OR high school diploma experience working with high risk children
Bi lingual English/Spanish strongly preferred
A passion for working with children and adolescents

CPR required at hiring

The Isaacs Center focuses primarily on the needs of children and low-income families, out-of-school and out-of-work youth, and aging New Yorkers. We operate at community centers located in the neighborhoods of East Harlem and Yorkville, and seek to deliver programs that are impactful, innovative, and intergenerational.
Purpose of Position: Youth Workers are assigned to work with a group of co-ed children, divided into grade groups (kindergarten through eight grade), for reading enrichment, project-based learning, group games and social0emotional competencies. Youth workers work in unison with the Group Leader and other group staff. In the absence of Group Leader, Youth Worker takes full leadership of the group. Together and through Group Work practice, our staff works to provide a positive and creative environment for the social and intellectual development of all participants.

Qualifications

Maintain sound supervision and ensuring the safety of program participants at all times.
Assist in supervising staff.

Supervise youth and participate in all activities by building positive relationships with youth and peers, serving as a role model with respect to demeanor, communication, behavior and the organization's mission, philosophy, and goals.
Work with children on developmental and emotional issues; encourage program participation and social skills development.
Teach and supervise organized games and assist the activity leaders, escort groups to and from activity areas and field trips and carry out other tasks as directed by Group Leaders.
Fulfill administrative requirements (Assist in planning activities, schedules and special events, attendance records, incident report, & progress reports).
Enforce program rules, identify & respond to participant behavior issues and carry out corrective action when needed by identifying and seeking to resolve conflicts and behavioral problems.
Communicate with parents about participant's experiences and report concerns to Group Leader.
Know and enforce ALL emergency procedures and follow all safety guidelines associated with all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for youth's safety and their whereabouts at all times.
Attend staff training, weekly meetings, case conferences, and supervision meetings.
Other duties as required and assigned by Program Director, ADED and/or DED.
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
Must be at least 16 years of age.
At least one year of experience working with children in groups.
High School Diploma/GED, some college preferred.
Must have ability to work collaboratively.
Must have a sense of humor, positive demeanor and a passion for youth development.
Must be able to pass Criminal Background Check including Fingerprint Screening, Sex Offender Registry and be physically able to work with children (via a physician's consent including TB screening)
