Purpose & Impact:
The Counselor assists in the provision of services to families by providing individual and family counseling, case management services to include but are not limited to referrals, follow-up, advocacy, etc. If assigned to a residential facility, this is a direct care position.

Essential Functions:
Assist in the provision of individual, group, and family counseling to youth and their families within the home and communities of the clients.
Provide crisis intervention counseling to families in crisis, as assigned.
Assist in the completion of comprehensive assessments of families in crisis.
Perform case management duties and is accessible ”on call” to assigned clients on a 24-hour basis.
Provide direct support to client families in implementing their case plan through constructive, active participation in family life.
Teach and assist parents in meeting the physical, mental, and emotional needs of their children.
Maintain an active caseload as assigned.
Assist in the coordination of other community-based services to advocate the needs of clients on the caseload.
Assist in the provision of appropriate referrals for clients and assist in linkage to those referrals as necessary.
Maintain professional communications and teamwork as appropriate contacts occur with the referral agency.
Serve as advocate for family preservation/unity.
Assist in the provision of follow-up monitoring and services to families on closed case status.
Attend staff meetings, supervision sessions, and inter-agency staffing on clients as required.
Compile required reports on families in caseload and submit to supervisor in a timely manner, including progress notes, reports to appropriate agencies and courts as the needs dictate.
Adhere to professional standards and ethics.
Serves as a referral liaison by presenting agency services to schools and community agencies and organizations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit for extended periods while conducting counseling sessions, completing documentation, and participating in meetings.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds for activities such as setting up group sessions or transporting materials.
Adequate vision and hearing to observe client behavior and respond effectively during sessions.
Manual dexterity for operating computers, phones, and other office equipment.
Capacity to travel locally to attend home visits, community outreach events, or off-site meetings as needed.
Ability to maintain energy and focus during high-stress or emotionally intense situations.

Education:
Bachelor's degree in human services, and other requirements as may be required by the grant source.

Must have attained the emotional maturity necessary to appropriately supervise children/youth whose behavior often deviates from what may be generally considered normal. Foster Care Back-Up Babysitters must utilize communication skills, patience, understanding, firmness, good relationship-building, positive role model qualities, an exhibition of positive parental skills, and a high tolerance for frustration. The following functions have been determined by the organization to be essential to the successful performance of this position:
Supervision: Responsible for assisting with daily supervision of children/youth in the group home. Should always know the whereabouts of each child and what activity he/she is engaged in. May be assigned responsibility for supervision of activities outside the home unit. Will be actively involved in all facets of the children's daily routine as necessary. Must be courageous enough to intervene in situations where the child's best interest is at risk and take appropriate steps to insure order, safety and control when necessary. Participatory childcare is expected.
Problem Management: Identifies potential crisis/problem situations and makes plans to resolve them or seek advice or support from team. Able to respond to verbal abuse or anger in a calm, deliberate manner. Responds to physical aggression or destructive behavior with minimum necessary restraint and avoids needless arguments through stated alternatives or natural consequences. Uses behavioral management techniques.
Unit Management: Responsible for assisting with the overall appearance and management of the group home. Works cooperatively with administration and other staff to order food, clothing requisition and inventory, linen inventory and replacement, laundry arrangement and other such items. Record significant events in the daily logbook. Issues and documents medication, as necessary. Regularly prepares breakfast, weekend meals and evening snacks as applicable to shift. May be called upon for food preparation as needed.
Other: Will assume other responsibilities as designated by the CEO or Program Administrator.
Foster Care Back-Up Babysitters must be able to participate in routine household cleaning and management. Should be able to participate in physical activities with children if needed. Must be in good physical health. Will also need to be able to handle driving a 6-passenger van occasionally and for emergencies.
Working Conditions: Most duties are performed in the home unit; however, contacts with the community and out-of-town trips, sometimes overnight, are required. The Foster Care Back-Up Babysitter's work schedule will be determined by the employing supervisor. Foster Care Back-Up Babysitters are responsible for the supervision of any child that is in the unit at any time. Some free time may be available daily while the children are at school or doing other activities. The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay brings help, hope and healing to people facing serious life challenges or trauma resulting from sexual assault or abuse, domestic violence, financial distress, substance abuse, medical emergency, suicidal thoughts, emotional or situational problems. The MSW Intern supports this mission by providing clinical counseling services to clients impacted by trauma, in addition to assisting with community outreach and awareness. This position reports to an on-site supervisor that is established prior to hours being completed.
Strategic/Transformational Duties and Responsibilities
* Deliver therapeutic services rooted in evidence-based practices including CPT and TF-CBT.
* Promote trauma-informed healing through individual and group therapy.
* Assist with community education and awareness initiatives to expand understanding of trauma.
Transactional/Administrative Duties and Responsibilities
* Provide therapy for survivors of trauma, including, but not limited to, domestic violence survivors, sexually abused juveniles and adult rape victims, adult incest survivors and their families, individually, in group sessions, and/or family sessions.
* Conduct client intakes, psychosocial assessments, and case management services.
* Develop treatment plans, maintain accurate clinical documentation, and diagnose using DSM criteria.
* Develop curriculum and lead psychoeducational and support groups for clients.
* Complete outcome measures and receive state rating certification as required by funding sources.
* Participate in staff meetings, trainings (including ACT Service Training), and outreach events.
* Participate in community awareness and advocacy activities.
* Collaborate with other professionals including courts and child welfare when needed.
* Document client cases within 24 hours of seeing the client.
* Assist in the coordination of clinical services as assigned by the supervisor of client representatives.
* Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the on-site supervisor.
* Represent the agency on task forces and professional panels.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

Working Conditions: Duties are performed primarily in an office setting. On occasion will require the use of transportation to travel to meetings and could be exposed to changing weather. The noise level is quiet.
Travel: Occasional between locations and within Corbett Trauma Center.
Hours: Must be able to work a flexible schedule which may include mornings, afternoons and/or evenings. May require working at multiple service locations.
