2022-2023 STUDENT LEADER JOB DESCRIPTION
ROLE OF THE STUDENT LEADER: This dynamic role promotes and enhances the academic success of students through an early move-in program and mentoring. The early move-in program will take place from August 16-18, 2022 and is a summer residential program for incoming freshman. The student leaders will mentor and guide students through sessions covering issues including:
Finding friends and making campus connections
Finding jobs on campus
Understanding scholarships, grants, and loans
How to succeed in classes
Using the portal: how and why?
Service learning
Preparing a graduation plan
Managing money
Student Leaders will also serve as peer mentors, within the Office of Multicultural Belonging and Engagement throughout the 2022-2023 academic year. Student leaders will support students academic and social development by connecting students with resources and programs to enhance student learning. This allows students to combine the tutelage from both Academic Advisors and Student Leaders in order to establish a foundation for a successful college career.
Mission: Student leaders are a part of an integrated effort to create an outstanding university experience for all students at RU with a focus on supporting multicultural learning and fostering belonging and engagement. Student Leaders will aid in providing new students with a transition to college life and multicultural learning in four important ways:
Raise academic expectations with engagement and compassion through programming
Serving as a resource to connect students with programs and initiatives that enhance learning and success
Partnering with OMBE staff to foster campus community and feelings of inclusion at RU
Offer opportunities for academic and personal development
DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS:
Participate in mandatory training/ retreat during the summer
Mentor and guide students through sessions during early move-in program
Assist in success workshops
Implement a coaching model that will address all issues inside and outside the classroom
Assess students current practices and suggest ways to improve
Serve as role models, support, and give the student a sense of belonging
Provide one-on-one sessions, reflection, and hold students accountable
Help students achieve meaningful and measurable goals
Provide individualized plans specific to academic and personal goals
Connect students to faculty, staff, and/or departments
Be a resource for students to communicate problems when faced with challenging situations
Maintain notes and/or other required documents
Help students become familiar with university resources; advise and refer students to appropriate university resources as needed
Maintain an academic relationship log of conversations with students

Strong ability to present to various groups of individuals

SALARY: $11.15 per hour minimum
REPORTS TO: Director of Multicultural Belonging and Engagement
TIME COMMITMENT: Bi-weekly for mandatory training and staff meetings, selected times in July or August for training/ retreat, 30-40hrs during early move-in week, and approximately 5-10 hours per week during the 2022-2023 academic year.

During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. Basic Function and Responsibility:
To ensure the safety and security of youth; assist in the execution of established youth treatment and service goals; and court orders. Supervise, assist and monitor activities of youth; document behavior, actions, incidents and other information. Execute individual components of treatment and service plans; review and execute court orders. Travel to youth residence and other locations; transport youth; monitor visits; conduct room checks; attend meetings and training; and perform related duties.

The deputy court administrator of family court is the appointing authority. The youth worker receives direct supervision by the facility supervisor, program manager, unit manager or director, depending upon facility or service area assigned.

Directly supervise and monitor daily activities of youth, which may include school, recreation, meals, personal hygiene, sleep, work projects, and suicide watch.
Document youth behavior, activities, rule infractions, incidents and other occurrences and information, in a narrative or report form basis.
Consistently ensure residential facility surroundings are safe and secure for both residents and staff and take appropriate action to correct deficiencies, which includes the use of force to prevent physical injury, escape or property destruction.
Help youth respond constructively to treatment and service, and assist in development and stabilization of personal and social adjustment skills which may involve anger control, positive peer and family interaction, personal hygiene, grooming and implementing discipline.
Counsel with youth on an individual and group basis regarding problems and approaches relative to personal and social adjustment skills.
Provide written and oral input regarding youth progress, behavior, rule infractions and skills.
Perform related work as required to include but not limited to serve on teams, committees as assigned, cross-train for other jobs as assigned, and work on special projects as assigned.
Provide guidance and assistance to youth in daily activities in order to develop and improve coping and competency skills and effectively modify attitude and behavior patterns.
Work with community resources to identify and implement youth work programs and projects, which may involve participation.
Perform body searches of youth, hand-out medication and mediate disagreements between youth.

Conduct residential facility room checks and monitor behavior of youth to prevent disturbances or escapes, and search facility and grounds for missing youth.

Informs prospective participants about the Homeownership program, determines applicant eligibility, coordinates the Homeownership programs with various mortgage lenders, and serves as liaison between the Authority and internal agencies (FSS and HCVP) and various outside agencies and lending institutions.
Establishes appropriate contacts, maintaining rapport with financial institutions, title companies, realtors, builders, and community and civic and government organizations.
Contacts Section 8 Resident Community in outreach efforts in order to inform, educate, and offer the opportunity that has been created to benefit qualifying candidates.
Holds training workshops and/or periodically scheduled classes, or one-on-one basis with Homeownership resident candidates, in order to provide orientation and training to the candidates before they seek a home to buy on such topics as Responsibilities of Owning a Home, Financial Responsibilities, Credit Management, finding a Realtor, negotiating a contract, The Option Period, The Closing and Post Closing Responsibilities, etc.
Participates in the Program Coordinating Committee (PCC) with local partners and service providers to ensure that FSS program participants are linked to the supportive services they need to achieve self-sufficiency, including services for participants with limited English proficiency.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The employee receives instructions from the FSS Program Manager. Courses of action, deadlines, and priorities are established by procedure, the supervisor, or the employee, depending on the assignment. Routine duties are initiated and completed by the employee without supervisory direction. Instructions to the employee may be general or specific in nature. Problems or situations not covered by instructions are usually referred to the supervisor for resolution. The employee's work is closely reviewed on a regular basis for accuracy, completion, and compliance with policies and procedures and the attainment of objectives.
The employee has no supervisory responsibilities but may request assistance of other Authority employees to ensure timely processing/updates/inspections of client information to obtain a more complete overview of client circumstances.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master's Degree is in social work is preferred. Bachelor's Degree with prior experience in strengths-based case management progress may be considered. Must have three (3) years' experience in case management.

CONTACTS
The employee's contacts are primarily with coworkers, managers, tenants, federal, state, and local governmental officials and representatives, the general public, and other agencies that dispense assistance to the FSS and Homeownership programs. The purpose of such contacts is to assist in the homeownership process and bring community services to HCVP participants, foster pride, and participation, and provide various kinds of support and assistance for individual families.
Difficulty may arise when program participants cannot be reached by telephone, when they are reluctant to respond, or when previously contacted city officials no longer hold the same position. At times meeting space may be limited or unavailable when needed.
