Basic Functions

Responsibilities
Keep a schedule of regular counseling appointments with clients and be available for non-scheduled counseling or crisis counseling when needed.
Complete bio-psycho-social assessments for each client. From the assessment, develop a treatment plan, which includes goals and objectives. Through progress notes and other documentation, show progress or lack of progress the client is making toward achievement of his or her goals.
Attend weekly Case Conferences to discuss clients progress in relation to their treatment plans. Identify problems or achievements through staff discussion.
Attend weekly meetings with the treatment team, focusing on continued training regarding systems, procedures and policies of CRI-Help.
Act as a liaison between clients and other service agencies involved in clients treatment, such as Probation, Parole, DPSS, EDD, DVR, along with referring case managers and insurance providers.
Make occasional court appearances.
Attend, and actively participate in, monthly in-service training sessions.
Facilitate groups and educational classes as assigned by Director of Clinical Operations.
Provide each client with an individualized Continuing Care Plan.
Complete all necessary documentation in a timely manner: this includes P.O. reports, progress notes, discharge summaries, aftercare plans, etc.
Provide family support and education through conjoint sessions as well as family groups.
Interface with all staff regarding client treatment issues.
Participate in fundraising events and other activities as directed by Director of Clinical Operations.

Skills / Knowledge
Must be able to identify patterns common to the population served.
Must be able to document client activities and / or carry out such written assignments is required. The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing is required.
Due to the program philosophy, all clinical staff must have a good understanding of the Narcotics Anonymous and / or Alcoholics Anonymous programs (the Twelve Steps).
Must have the ability to establish a genuine therapeutic relationship with clients.
Must have knowledge and ability to use counseling techniques to educate, elicit feelings, facilitate self-understanding, and motivate the client.
Must have the ability to act as Case Manager, coordinating a continuum of treatment and / or services for clients.
Education / Training
Position requires individual be registered or certified with CADTP, CAADE, or CCAPP, or be masters level BBS registered.
Experience
Must have experience working in SUD treatment.

This training track is for students seeking a Field Placement that leads to eligibility for the Pupil Personnel Services Credential (PPSC) in school social work. This track entails placement at one of our three Charter schools. We currently have a middle school (6th-8th grades), elementary (TK-grade 5) and a primary center (Tk-1st grade). Training within this track includes supporting with individual and small group counseling, attendance (includes tracking, meeting with parents, conducting home visits, supporting school staff with incentive programs); classroom interventions; presentations (i.e. topics such as bullying, conflict resolution, etc..); parent workshops; case management and crisis intervention. Students will have the opportunity to co-facilitate groups on topics such as social skills, bullying, etc.
Available Internship Days and Times:
This internship is a 20 hours a week commitment. Internship days are flexible, however attendance at the site must be during school hours (i.e. 7:30am-3:30pm). If you would like to qualify for the PPSC, you will need to serve at one site for 16 hours and the remaining four at another site. Wednesdays are a mandatory training day as this is the day of the week in which staff meetings, trainings and group supervision take place on a weekly basis (9am-3pm).
The primary start date for training is the first Wednesday after Labor Day. There will be a 2-day orientation that will take place in late August (date to be determined) in order to help the students with onboarding activities. This orientation is necessary in order to ensure students have completed activities that will support their beginning their clinical training. It should also be noted that for the first two weeks of training in September most trainings are scheduled to take place on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Attendance to these training days is required unless prior arrangements have been discussed with the respective training supervisor.
Supervision and Training Plan
Supervision: Students receive 1 hour of individual and 2 hours of group supervision weekly. Individual supervision is done in person while group supervision is conducted via telehealth format. Group supervision consists of no more than 8 students. Students present cases each week in a structured presentation format to facilitate this area of their professional development.
Meetings with Preceptors: Students are assigned a preceptor at the beginning of the training year who provides additional needed supports for the student to acclimate to their placement and be available in the event they have questions or crises arise.
Trainings: Students participate in bi-monthly trainings. Trainings take place on Wednesdays from 10am-12pm. Various topics that have been presented previously include crisis intervention, compassion fatigue, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, attachment, brain development, toxic stress, art therapy and sensory processing disorders.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. English proficiency supporting professional-level verbal and written communication to children, parents and other staff members required.

Concurrent enrollment in a graduate degree program

Job Overview
Our SUD Counselor Internship program is specifically for students enrolled in a Drug and Alcohol Studies Program through an accredited educational program. During their time in our programs, interns are able to observe the daily activities of a residential or outpatient SUD treatment program. Interns have an opportunity to shadow certified SUD Counselors and/or LPHAs during assessment, treatment planning, groups, classes, counseling sessions, and case management sessions. Interns will have an opportunity to attend treatment team meetings and learn about documentation requirements in an electronic health record system. Interns will also have opportunities to work with staff and support clients in their process towards recovery. All interns receive regular weekly supervision with a Certified/Licensed SUD Counselor in a Supervisory Role, Registered LPHA, or Clinical Supervisor in accordance with educational program requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Attend treatment team meetings and learn about documentation requirements in an electronic health record system

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be registered with an SUD counselor Certifying Organization (CO) recognized by the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) before internship start date
Must be enrolled in an accredited educational program studying to become an SUD counselor
Comfort working with issues of substance abuse, mental health, criminal background, and other potential barriers to economic self sufficiency
Awareness of cultural humility and able to work with a diverse population
Professional, punctual, flexible and reliable
Able to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
Proficiency with Microsoft Office application and internet applications
Some locations may require a background check. (Students who are on active parole or have a criminal record may not be eligible for placement with certain programs.)
All SUD Counselor Interns must be present for a TB clearance before the internship starts

Key Responsibilities
Assist individuals with self-help and daily living skills, including feeding, toileting, dressing, and hygiene
Engage clients in age-appropriate and preferred activities such as games, reading, outdoor walks, and creative play
Maintain the client's established daily routines and support consistency
Ensure client safety, supervision, and well-being at all times
Support behavior challenges as needed, including redirection and de-escalation
Communicate effectively with families and agency staff regarding client needs and progress
Qualifications
Top Skills (Must-Haves):
Experience working with children or adults with developmental disabilities
Ability to provide compassionate, patient, and reliable care
Strong communication and observation skills
Required Experience & Skills:
High school diploma/GED and at least 1 year of experience working with individuals with disabilities (autism or related developmental disabilities) OR
Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related humanities field
Ability to meet training and agency compliance requirements
Valid California driver's license and current auto insurance
Ability to obtain fingerprint clearance (Live Scan)
Preferred:
Spanish-speaking ability
Experience as a caregiver, respite worker, school aide, paraeducator, or ABA support staff
Familiarity with Regional Center-supported services
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Provide in-home or community-based supervision and support
Assist with daily routines and self-care activities
Engage clients in structured and unstructured activities
Monitor safety and respond appropriately to behavioral needs
Document basic observations and follow agency guidelines
Education
High school diploma/GED required
Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field preferred
