About the Role

The studio director will be responsible for multi-camera studio shows in particular, The Dan Le Batard Show With Stugotz, which are produced live and recorded from Meadowlark Media's Miami studio. The successful candidate will be experienced in directing live shows and OB events for broadcast, and have worked in roles which have required creative vision. The studio director works behind-the-scenes, closely with talent, producers, production operations and engineering to ensure a 'tight ship' in pre-production and during each show while being responsible for delivery to master control on time. The ideal candidate will be calm under pressure and relish the challenges of working in a fast-paced start-up environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Direct and cut cameras for the capturing of the event or show
  • Set shot requirements, framing and connectivity both for in-studio and remote cameras
  • Collaborate with producers, talent and production management to ensure alignment with the visual requirements
  • Develop a shooting plan including lighting and camera operations and movements
  • Lead and troubleshoot studio and production crew on the last-minute changes and issues
  • Operate all studio equipment effectively and safely. This will include the use of mixing desks (various switcher solutions, including Tricaster, TC2 and VMix), controlling the routing of outside sources. It will also include operating playout and production-based systems as well as recording, editing, mixing, and replaying material
  • Develop and maintain good relations with programs on a daily basis, representing the department in operational areas, as well as at production and editorial meetings when appropriate
  • Quality control and lead advancement of studio shows's overall direction, camera selection and placement
  • Collaborate with Production Operations and producers in forward planning for special events and shows
  • Use a knowledge of developments within the industry to provide advice on production needs and to brief colleagues on developing technical procedures
  • Lead technical arrangements including planning outside broadcasts when necessary
  • Communicate clearly in high-pressure situations

Experience & Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Ten years experience at a broadcaster or similar with familiarity of live studio production
