As an HVAC Service Project's Installation Technician, you will work with our mechanical projects team to complete commercial mechanical equipment change out, retrofit and installation projects. Typical projects include installation, replacements and retrofits of HVAC equipment, sheet metal / ductwork, piping and other related materials and systems. Ability to travel out of town, as needed
Compensation
Wage Range Starting at: $25.00+/per hour based on qualifications & experience
Job Duties
Retrofit and installation of commercial HVAC equipment including RTU'S, split systems, VRF & VRV, WSHP'S, Air cooled & water-cooled chillers ranging up to 300 tons
Repair and / or replace defective equipment, components, or wiring
Installation of other HVAC systems including duct and electrical wiring
Installation of refrigerant piping
Installation of threaded gas piping
Installation of low voltage wiring and basic controls
Ability to Braze & soft solder copper pipe for water and refrigeration piping systems
Field fabrication of duct as required by the project
Complete required electronic reports and documentation daily on a handheld device
Requirements
3 or more years of experience with commercial HVAC equipment retrofit and installation projects
EPA Universal certification
OSHA 10 certification (the company will provide if needed)
Experience with water-cooled and chilled water systems
Experience with high and low voltage wiring of commercial HVAC equipment

Our team is growing, and we are looking for a professional with at least five years of experience in major manufacturers BMS control products. Preferred systems include Honeywell Webs, KMC Controls, Tridium Niagara AX/N4, and JCI FX. If you have the expertise to manage installations, terminations, programming, start-ups, and commissioning of DDC HVAC Building Control Systems with minimal supervision, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management: Oversee field start-up activities for construction projects, including field programming, system start-up, documentation, system acceptance, client training, and warranty calls.
System Commissioning: Under the technical managers guidance, perform software start-up and commissioning of complete control systems under operational conditions and simulated seasonal changes.
Quality Assurance: Ensure installed programs meet the project's sequence of operations and that all controllers function correctly.
User Interface Installation: Install, test, and field-verify a complete Graphical User Interface, providing end-user training on using web-based graphics to control the system.
Programming Adjustments: Make necessary programming corrections to account for field conditions, maintain field reports, and update as-built documentation.
Dynamic Testing: Conduct dynamic testing of all installed hardware and software.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure uniform and proper installation of controls per company and National Electric Code standards and verify compliance with OSHA and company regulations.
Documentation: Maintain accurate checkout sheets and update as-built documentation for timely production of O&Ms.
Continuous Learning: Stay current with technical enhancements and new product developments through company-provided training.
Team Supervision: Supervise project team members to ensure efficient work within the project scope.
Flexibility: Willingness to travel and work outside normal hours as required.
Minimum Requirements:
Punctual, organized, reliable, and self-motivated.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Visio, Word).
Basic knowledge of electronic circuits and electrical systems, with the ability to understand wiring diagrams and circuits.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Experience in temperature control systems, HVAC systems, DDC controls, HVAC electronics, running conduit, and terminating wiring.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and reliable vehicle.
Must pass a criminal background check and be subject to random drug screening.
Ability to work in large-scale construction sites, understanding personal safety, and adapting to changing job locations.

Your Role
As a Senior Controls Technician, you will serve as the technical lead on assigned projects, responsible for delivering high-quality BAS installations from start-up through turnover.
Your responsibilities include:
Field programming and system start-up

Verifying sequences of operation and system performance
Graphics and front-end installation, testing, and client training
Troubleshooting and making real-world programming adjustments
Coordinating with project managers, technicians, and clients
Producing clean documentation, as-builts, and checkout sheets

You'll work with minimal supervision while having access to management and engineering support when needed.

What you will do
Under minimal supervision, conducts preventive maintenance, repair, installation, and commissioning and general servicing of systems (including detailed troubleshooting of systems). What you will do
Under minimal supervision, conducts preventive maintenance, repair, installation, and commissioning and general servicing of systems (including detailed troubleshooting of systems). How you will do it
Diagnoses and repairs complex control systems malfunctions requiring extensive knowledge of a variety of electronic or digital controls systems and ability to test and write modifications in multiple languages of systems software.
Consults with the customer through data gathered and site assessments. Provides field proposals for retrofits, upgrades and or enhancements to existing equipment. Assists sales by providing technical recommendations for sales leads.
Manages assigned work to meet professional and efficient execution of time and customer satisfaction. Reports problems or changes to management immediately. Interfaces with branch manager, service manager, service project manager or subcontractors on projects to coordinate activities as required ethically and professionally.
Provides sketches of field changes and discrepancies for engineering corrections and drawings. May assist with job layouts and bid proposals.
Communicates with customers upon arrival and before leaving the work site. Ensures high levels of customer satisfaction. Meets regularly with customers to become familiar with operating problems. Keeps customer informed on the service provided, outstanding issues and recommends system enhancements, upgrades, and replacement. Promotes the sale of add-on work.
Adheres to all Johnson Controls and customer safety standards. Provides safety leadership and instruction to all control's technicians in the branch. Provides safety awareness while working onsite with Johnson Controls subcontractors.
Trains the customer in control systems operations. Delivers manuals and documentation to the customer for training needs as required.
Provides mentorship for certification of Controls Technicians and Service Technicians on complex building automation systems. Coaches, supports and trains the technical workforce on non-complex, non-critical equipment.
Compiles job documentation, such as certificate of completion, customer training form, training certificates and punch lists.
Conducts extensive self-study (reading, research and practice) to improve and maintain technical proficiency in company's product lines. Completes certifications as required by the company.
Other duties related to the installing, commissioning and servicing of building controls and facilities management systems and energy management systems, as assigned.
Assists in the design and configuration of building control systems as defined by the contract documents. Creates flow diagrams, sequence of operations, and bill of material, network layouts and electrical schematics as required.
Assists in developing and testing software programs necessary to operate the system per the project requirements' intent.
Compiles and/or completes project as built and close-out documentation.
Assists in the coordination and creation of necessary drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation.
Selects, orders, and tracks the delivery of materials for assigned projects. Coordinates factory-mounting processes to meet factory and project schedule.
Assists in the loading and commissioning of all system and network-level controllers as required. Assists in validation of complete system functionality and troubleshoots problems with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper operation.
May provide field change information to the project team for the creation of as-built drawings and software.
Keeps management and JCI contractor or customer informed of job progress and issues.
Assists in performing site-specific training for owner / operator on the total building control system.
Participates in release meeting with project field team.
Provide recommendations and solutions to ensure facility is running efficiently to include upselling opportunities.
Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.
What we look for
Required
Be a dedicated member of a North America Branch team willing to learn and be responsible for system trouble shooting, repair and aftermarket services for this fast-growing business.
Minimum of Four (4) years Commercial Controls troubleshooting experience in the HVAC industry. This includes buildings, chiller plants and systems.
Vocational School program graduate or an associate's degree in a technical field, or two years' experience in servicing electronic and or mechanical systems.
Demonstrated ability to install and/or service electronic control systems and HVAC equipment.
Effective communication skills to represent Johnson Controls on customer sites.
Possesses the ability to explain technical information to technical and non-technical people.
Demonstrate effective writing skills as well as understanding of programs and software applications.
Knowledge of control theory, automatic temperature controls, building automation systems and other building subsystems.
Pay Range: $29.00 - 40.00 hourly rate determined by the CBA/rate sheet. Benefits are provided through a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement. Properly troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair Commercial Refrigeration Equipment, Ice Machines and HVAC systems to include installation and repairing systems by mounting, installing, fabricating, or connecting compressors, condensers, evaporators, motors, expansion and discharge values, motors, temperature and fans, control panels, switches, fuses, filters, gauges, ducts, piping, tubing, and related components; completes power connections;
Work on commercial kitchen & cooking equipment such as: mixers, grilles/griddles, char-grills, ovens (deck and pizza), warming cabinets, holding cabinets, food wells, fryers, steamers, and pasta cookers;
Communicate with manufacturers as needed to help with diagnoses and parts identification;
Consult with the Operations Department for technical support while onsite and when follow up work needs to be scheduled;
Consult with the Parts Department to get parts ordered;
Install all parts ordered for the customer in a timely and professional manner and in line with company policy;
Promote and recommend other services available to customers when needed;
Produce accurate and timely administrative documents, such as work orders, time sheets, receipts, and truck stock inventory;
Follow safe work practices and accident prevention procedures;
Maintain a neat and orderly truck, along with accurate part and tool inventory;
Maintain productivity levels in accordance with company standards;

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or equivalent;

Minimum of three (3) years trade related experience which would include installing refrigeration piping, brazing, setting display cases, condensing units, compressor racks and rooftop condensers;
Ability to diagnose and repair commercial refrigeration systems including but not limited to Ice Machines, light commercial equipment; package and split HVAC systems;
Ability to read and interpret refrigeration legends, construction drawings and equipment manuals.
Physically able to climb ladders, work at high elevations and lift objects up to fifty pounds.
Willingness and ability to perform On-Call and emergency after-hours duties as needed to ensure service coverage;
Successfully pass post offer pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check in order to comply with Act 34;
Detailed oriented and possess the ability to communicate (written and verbal) with customers, dispatch and management effectively;
EPA Universal Certification
