Job Summary
Odyssey House Detox Program is currently looking for a full-time bilingual (English and Spanish) Licensed/Licensed-Eligible Social Worker or Counselor. The schedule is M-F 8am to 5pm, rotating holidays and weekends as needed. The Counselor will provide specialized services for the assigned caseload, provide core and ancillary group therapies weekly, individual counseling and when appropriate, family therapy. The Counselor has the main responsibility of maintaining communication with the referral source, court systems, and other involved human service providers as related to the client's ongoing treatment and discharge planning. The Counselor is responsible for working within the multidisciplinary team to develop treatment planning, treatment case reviews, and all written documentation as required by the agency, state and federal courts, and all funding sources.
Responsibilities and Duties
It is the duty and responsibility of the Counselor to:
provide Clinical services to assigned clients; conduct weekly group therapies, individual counseling and/or family therapy as outlined in treatment plans; co-lead group therapies; conduct family assessments/therapy;
function as a liaison to outside agencies, participate in case planning conferences, and treatment meetings and, when necessary, attend court hearings and represent the agency and client(s);
maintain contact with and is available to Agency personnel, client's drug court officer, and family members regarding client's progress, problems and crises;
maintain clinical case file for each client to include: assessments, Individual Treatment Plans,
Case notes, and discharge summaries;
apply ASAM Criteria to treatment planning;
maximize units of services and maintain contract units of service by working with clients to stay engaged in treatment;
provide crisis management when indicated by client need;
assist with the planning and organization of therapeutic client actives both at and outside of the facility;
ensure all written reports are up-to-date in case file;
ensure completion of electronic medical record documentation;
attend staff and other meetings;
attend regularly scheduled in-service training;
participate in quarterly training with staff;
complete all Incident Reports prior to the end of scheduled shift as required by Incident Policy and Procedure;
adhere to all Louisiana Department of Health and Agency contract requirements;
maintain COA standards and participate in COA site audits;
collaborate with other departments;
work with Bayou Health providers for initial authorization and concurrent authorizations;
ensure that all sign in sheets are printed for group and all groups are batched for billing; and
perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
Minimum qualifications include the following:
Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work or Counseling
A valid Louisiana State issued license in either counseling or social work
At least 1 year of substance use disorder treatment modalities (emphasis on Minnesota Model) and DSM-V experience
Excellent communication skills

About the Role
Clarvida is seeking a SubstanceAbuse Specialist to join our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team, supporting adults with severe mental illness who are also experiencing substance use challenges. In this role, you will provide integrated, recovery-oriented substance use services while working as part of a multidisciplinary ACT team.
ACT services are delivered directly in the community-client homes, places of employment, and other local settings-to support stability, recovery, and long-term independence. Job Description
The Substance Use Counselor provides professional, in-person substance-use counseling and recovery support to veterans participating in the GPD Transitional Housing Program. This role focuses on helping clients achieve sobriety, develop relapse-prevention strategies, and address co-occurring behavioral health needs. Responsibilities include clinical assessment, individualized Recovery plan, group and individual counseling, crisis intervention, and collaboration with VA and community providers. The counselor ensures compliance with confidentiality regulations (HIPAA & 42 CFR Part 2), VA GPD guidelines, and agency clinical standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Schedule: In-person only. Monday-Friday after 5:00 PM, up to 4 hours/day. Three group sessions per week as scheduled.
Clinical Counseling & Assessment
Conduct substance-use assessments, screenings, and biopsychosocial evaluations.
Develop individualized Support plan based on client needs and recovery goals.
Provide evidence-informed substance use recovery support services (group and individual), in person, using approved curricula (e.g.,
Living in Balance, Matrix, Seeking Safety
) and trauma-informed practices
Provide crisis intervention and de‑escalation support.
Facilitate two 90-minute recovery support groups per week and maintain 6-8 individual recovery support sessions per week, as scheduled.
Monitor participant engagement and progress and adjust recovery support goals and activities as appropriate.
Documentation & Compliance
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation per program standards and legal requirements.
Submit screening summaries, recovery support plans, progress notes, and incident reports within required timelines (notes within 24 hours; recovery support plan within 7 days of first service).
Ensure all services comply with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, Louisiana licensure/board rules, and organizational policy.
If serving non‑VA‑eligible (“humanitarian”) clients only, maintain full separation from GPD services (no mixed groups, no GPD charting, no GPD funds/space/time).
If services include GPD participants, adhere to approved GPD Scope of Work and any VA‑approved modification.
Care Coordination
Collaborate with GPD Case Managers, VA Behavioral Health/SUD programs, and community providers using warm handoffs and signed releases.
Support veterans in accessing behavioral-health services, recovery resources, and medical/psychiatric care.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case consultations (without duplicating VA treatment).
Advocacy & Support
Advocate for veterans' behavioral-health needs within healthcare systems.
Promote recovery‑oriented, trauma‑informed, and culturally responsive care.
Provide staff education on SUD, lifesaving services, relapse‑prevention, withdrawal management, and MAT basics.
Professional Development & Community Collaboration
Maintain currency with evidence-based practices, including ASAM-informed placement awareness, MAT awareness, opioid use disorder support strategies, and harm reduction.
Participate in required training, supervision, and continuing education.
Collaborate with community partners on recovery initiatives and opioid education.

Assists in assigning work therapy assignments for each beneficiary according to their particular skills and according to the position vacancies within the Center.

A valued member of the primary care team, the Certified Addictions Counselor is strategically placed to optimize exercising his/her knowledge and expertise as a counselor and educator for patients and families. Essential Duties and Functions
Work collaboratively with the Primary Care Department, the Integrated Behavioral Health Department, the Outpatient Health Department, and Outreach teams to provide comprehensive care coordination for all MAT program patients.
Completes intakes/comprehensive assessments for assigned MAT/SUD clients
Performs follow up, ongoing assessments and notes for MAT/SUD patients. Develops a plan for on-going MAT clients specifying objectives and outcome goals
Collaborate with Behavioral Therapists in coordination of group and individual psychoeducation intervention strategies to assist patients in their wellness plan.
Provides individual and group treatment to address addictive behaviors by using Evidence Based practices and approaches such as: Trauma Informed Care, Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction, and 12 step group sessions
Conduct group and schedule individual substance use disorder counseling meetings with patients to assess triggers, cravings, withdrawal symptoms, substance use, motivation to remain in recovery
Assist the client in developing skills required to achieve sobriety and better enhance his/her abilities to function as a productive member of the community.
Provides ongoing support for clients in areas of their daily living situation; assist client to build resilience through focusing on interpersonal skills, maintenance of mental needs with particular focus on substanceabuse issues, educational needs, connecting to work training, fulfilling their legal obligations in order to remain in the community.
Facilitates appropriate needed referrals as recommended by BTs and Prescriber to other treatment programs, i.e., detox, inpatient or residential treatment facilities and medical care in conjunction with the client's insurance and primary care provider. Meet with patients in program at least monthly to assess any issues. Perform outreach as needed, facilitate transitions of care to different level facilities as needed. Provide support during taper.
Responsible for overseeing the patient schedule and attending huddles to identify issues/potential new referrals; facilitate patient scheduling in conjunction with PSRs to ensure smooth clinical workflow.
Attendance and participation in meetings, in-services, educational programs and other activities as deemed appropriate.
Implement and maintain quality improvement activities related to Primary Care, in collaboration with the Quality Coordinator and the Primary Care Director.
Assist with Prior Authorizations as needed
Provides after hours work including: participation in weekly on call phone rotation schedule to permit 24 hour/7 day a week access to service
Monitors and reports information to the Manager
