Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Provide relevant SubstanceAbuse information for class curriculum.
Facilitate didactic educational presentations, group counseling, and individual counseling sessions.
Select and recommend new instructional materials and programs for use in the substanceabuse program.
Maintain knowledge of new developments in the field of substanceabuse.
Maintain a collegian relationship with other substanceabuse professionals, programs, and associations.
Complete required testing, assessment, and psychosocial history on incoming residents as required.
Participate in related training for substanceabuse.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree in a social or human services field preferred.
Certification in Alcohol and Drug Counseling within two (2) years of employment.
Experience providing human service functions preferred.
Physical Requirements:
In this position, you will frequently have to lift or carry up to 20 lbs. Candidates should also be able to bend, stoop, walk, and stand (31-60% of the time). You will also occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 40 lbs.

Position Summary:
Mental Health Specialists are bachelor's-level mental health professionals who provide structured, one-on-one strength-based support to male clients at the ages of 5 and up. The Mental Health Specialist provides advocacy to those in our black and brown communities, addressing their daily living, social and communication needs. They provide these services in any location appropriate to the client's needs such as home, school, community, or justice-related environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one and group-based behavioral health services.
Deliver skill-building, role-playing, social communication, and problem-solving interventions.
Support clients in real-life community settings including schools, homes, probation and reentry programs.
Collaborate with external stakeholders such as school deans, case managers, and probation officers.
Participate in treatment team meetings and follow clinical service plans.
Submit timely progress notes and discharge summaries.
Maintain a maximum caseload of 25 clients.
Attend supervision and team meetings regularly.

The SubstanceAbuseCounselor prepares and submits all treatment and educational outlines, lectures, handouts and other relevant materials as requested.
Maintains records and daily clinical charting as required internally or by the client.
The SubstanceAbuseCounselor implements substanceabuse and life skills assessments and integrates results into resident client treatment plans.
Participates in all training and supervision activities as provided for internally or by the client.
The SubstanceAbuseCounselor prepares schedules, reports or other information required for the program and requested by the management or the client.
In conjunction with TASC and / or part as part of re-entry process, assesses client aftercare needs, issues and services.
The SubstanceAbuseCounselor provides counseling to residents' family or significant others as requested by the management or correctional staff.
Coordinates individual clinical care of assigned resident caseload.
The SubstanceAbuseCounselor participates in treatment planning and conferences.
Observes and supervises resident interactions.
Provides individual and group therapy or counseling. Meets with assigned residents as necessary.
Maintains and updates residents' records and documents program in charts.
Performs ASI assessments and any other required assessment instruments.
Assists client's staff in monitoring offender behavior and developing intervention plans regarding difficult offenders.
Obtains a CADC or reciprocal credential within two (2 )years of employment.
Works as a team member with entire treatment staff and ancillary personnel to promote consistent and coordinated efforts.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree in a social or human services field preferred.
Certification in Alcohol and Drug Counseling within two (2) years of employment.
Experience providing human service functions preferred.

In this position, you will frequently have to lift or carry up to 20 lbs. Candidates should also be able to bend, stoop, walk, and stand (31-60% of the time). You will also occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 40 lbs.

Behavioral Health Specialist
Location: Heritage Behavioral Health Center (Crisis Stabilization Unit, Residential Rehabilitation
Unit, and/or Group Homes)
Schedule: 24/7 programs with multiple shifts (days/evenings/nights; weekends and holidays required; rotating/alternative schedules available)
Overview of the Position:
Behavioral Health Specialists provide compassionate, paraprofessional support to individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use challenges in a recovery‑oriented, person‑centered environment. Working within our Crisis Stabilization Unit, Residential Rehabilitation Unit, or Group Homes, you'll deliver direct care, skills coaching, safety monitoring, and daily living support that help individuals stabilize, build independence, and thrive in the community. This role is ideal for candidates who are reliable, teachable, and committed to trauma‑informed care, even in fast‑paced or crisis settings.
Core Responsibilities:
Support Daily Living & Recovery
Coach residents in ADLs (meal prep, hygiene, housekeeping, laundry) and independent living skills (medication routines, budgeting, time management).
Promote healthy routines: sleep hygiene, nutrition, movement, and community participation.
Client Engagement & Skills Coaching
Use motivational, strength-based approaches to build rapport and engagement.
Facilitate or co‑facilitate psychoeducational groups (coping skills, wellness, relapse prevention, community integration).
Crisis & Safety Support
Maintain therapeutic milieu and conduct scheduled safety checks.
Use de‑escalation techniques and follow crisis protocols; promptly seek clinical support when risk increases.
Support transitions between CSU, RRU, Group Homes, and community settings.
Medication & Health Support (non-clinical)
Support medication routines per program protocol (e.g., reminders, observation/ documentation when applicable).
Encourage adherence to medical/behavioral health appointments and care plans; assist with transportation as needed.
Documentation & Communication
Complete timely, accurate progress notes, checklists, incident reports, and shift handoffs in accordance with policy.
Communicate effectively with clinical teams (nurses, therapists, prescribers, case managers) and follow care plans.

Uphold trauma‑informed, culturally responsive, recovery‑oriented care principles.
Maintain clean, organized, and safe environments; follow infection control and confidentiality standards (HIPAA).
