Successful participation and completion of electromechanical/electronics training received from the military may be considered in lieu of a two year degree.Work experience directly associated with substation maintenance and testing may be considered in lieu of a two year degree. Such maintenance and testing will include, but not limited to, medium/high voltage transformer, circuit breaker, circuit recloser, protective relays, and regulators utilizing specialized test equipment and procedures. Such test equipment would include but not be limited to Power Factor Test set (Doble preferred), Megohm meter, TTR meter, Micro-ohm meter, high potential test set, circuit breaker timer, current transformer test set, and recloser test set.

**Brief Posting Description**

Do all construction and maintenance work assigned in a safe and efficient manner.

**Job Requirements**

1. Must have a satisfactory work record.

2.Must successfully pass the following tests:

a) Transmission Technical Apprentice Qualification Test with a 75% or better score.

b) Transmission Substation Technician and Substation Apparatus Technician Practical (hands-on) Test with a 75% or better score

3.Must have and maintain, or be able to obtain within 6 months, a valid Colorado Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with Tanker and Hazardous Material endorsements, and no Air Brake restrictions.

4.Must have and maintain, or be able to obtain and maintain a First Aid and CPR Certification within 6 months of hire, and have the ability to perform First Aid and CPR.

5.Must have a willingness to work in and around high voltages common to the electrical utility industry.

6.Must be willing to accept overnight travel up to 75% of working time.

7.Must reside within 60 minutes response time from your regular reporting location.

8.Must be willing and able to work extra and irregular hours as the utility needs may require, and willing and able to work under unusual or special working conditions such as storms, extreme temperatures, winds, darkness, etc.

9.Must have sufficient knowledge and skill in the safe use of basic hand tools, power tools, electrical and electronic tools, and electronic test equipment.

10.Must be willing and able to climb steel structures and work at various heights.

11.Must be able to work in confined areas.

Tri-State may require you to demonstrate that you can perform the essential job functions.

**Summary:**

This is a DOL approved apprenticeship.

Apprentice will learn all aspects of Substation work while completing on the job training (OJT) hours. Apprentices will conduct self-paced study through an advanced curriculum developed and maintained by the Northwest Lineman College and perform 7,500 OJT hours in the operation, construction, and maintenance of electrical substations.

**Specific duties:**

+ General construction of electrical substations;

+ Underground and above ground conduit

+ Installation of underground grounding systems

+ Installation of steel structures

+ Install MV/HV switches and other electrical equipment

+ Assist in the layout and concrete placement of drilled peers

**Qualifications:**

+ Diploma/certificate from High School, GED or Line school required

+ Must be at least 18 years of age

+ Must have a valid driver's license

+ Must be able to read and write in English

+ Must receive recommendation of their Superintendent once employed, before they will be enrolled in the Apprenticeship program

+ Preferred experience in Electrical Substations

+ Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
