JOB TITLE:
Academic Athletic Tutor
JOB PURPOSE:
Tutors assist student-athletes in a controlled academic setting to communicate subject knowledge/study skills while practicing the highest level of academic integrity and provide information regarding the access of academic resources.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Tutors will work in a one-on-one or small group setting and are expected to establish rapport with the student-athlete while exuding patience, trust, and confidentiality regarding any correspondence between tutor and student.
Tutors are required to file individual reports regarding each meeting with a student-athlete by the end of the evening of each appointment.
Tutors will be trained at the beginning of each semester on the specific NCAA rules applied to working with student-athletes.
Hours per week may fluctuate from week to week depending on student need, tutor availability and student-athlete competition schedule. tutors will be able to set their max hours available each week, and are expected to honor the time provided. Communication and exceptional time management will be of utmost importance between tutor and tutor coordinator.
The Office of Academic Support hours of operation are Monday-Thursday 8 am - 10 pm, Friday 8 am - 5 pm and Sunday 12 pm - 5 pm. tutors will set their availability within these hours.
Tutors will be paid $12/hour. At the end of each semester tutors will be evaluated for continuing employment. If invited back, hourly rate will increase by $1/hour each academic year, capped at $16/hour.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Must be at least a Junior by class standing and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and have earned an A or B in the coursework they would like to tutor.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The skills necessary for this position include active listening, professionalism, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
Applicants must also possess exceptional communication and time management skills.
