Job Description
Uncommon Middle School English Language Arts (ELA) teachers are passionate about literature and building an engaging classroom culture. Our teachers develop subject mastery and have a keen sense of the socio-emotional changes middle schoolers experience. At the heart of all ELA classes is an emphasis on writing and discourse designed to give students the tools to be confident in the power of their own voice. Teachers are trained in a variety of research-based instructional strategies to prioritize discussion, ignite a passion for literature, build reading comprehension, and promote agency. By the conclusion of eighth grade, students are prepared for the academic autonomy and college preparatory focus of our high schools.
Responsibilities
1. Instruction
You'll empower students to be their fullest selves by teaching an inclusive, culturally responsive curriculum that seeks equitable outcomes for all students.
You'll guide students to analyze literary and non-narrative texts, assess an author's purpose, write in a variety of genres, and grapple with meaningful questions in student-led discourse.

You do not need to be certified to be hired; however, if hired you will need to pass state teacher certification tests to meet the MA state requirements.
All Commonwealth charter teachers must either have an appropriate MA educator's license or pass required the MTEL(s) including the Communications and Literacy MTEL , Subject Specific MTEL, and the MTEL SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) Endorsement within first year of employment. All core academic teachers* assigned to teach English learners are required to earn the SEI endorsement. Any teacher without a SEI endorsement has one year from date of assignment to teach ELs, to earn the MTEL SEI endorsement.

The Center for Applied Behavioral Instruction (CABI) is a growing state of the art educational program for students on the autism spectrum with accompanying behavioral difficulties. We have a unique team format consisting of a 2:1 & 1:1 student to educator ratio with a Special Education Teacher and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) within each classroom, both not considered in ratio. Classrooms are no more than 8 students per room.
Our goal is to provide a highly structured and intensive environment while building positive relationships with our students and supporting them not only educationally, but behaviorally, socially, adaptively, and emotionally.
Salary range is $65,000-$75,000, commensurate with education and experience.
Schedule:
* The full time position is school based working from Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm for a 226 day school year.
Paid Time off:
* February school break week, April school break week, week of the 4th of July, and the week between Christmas and New Year's.

Substitute teacher job in Cambridge, MA
BB&N is seeking Lower School substitute teachers for the 2025-2026 academic year to provide coverage for expected and unexpected faculty absences. Primary responsibilities include teaching in a range of age levels and subject areas and providing a consistent and optimal learning environment by following the lesson plans. Additional responsibilities include covering duties and attending events outside the classroom as needed.
Skills and Competencies:
The ideal candidate should have 1-3 years of teaching experience at the elementary school level, an understanding of cognitive and social development for children at this age, and a strong knowledge of instruction and assessment practices in Mathematics and English Language Arts. In addition, candidates should be well-versed in interdisciplinary curriculum, project work, and anti-bias curriculum. A Bachelor's degree is required, and a Master's degree is preferred.
In addition, the candidate should demonstrate:
Joy working with elementary-aged students, and an understanding of child development for this age group
Commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive community
Knowledge and commitment around diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and the impact it has on the classroom climate and curriculum
A desire to continue seeking professional development
Excellent writing skills
Ability to collaborate with colleagues inside and outside of the curriculum
Ability to communicate effectively with students and families
Curriculum design and assessment experience
Ability to receive feedback
Compensation: $195 per 8 am-3 pm day / $169 per 8 am-2 pm day / $78 per 3-hour block if less than a day, prorated as applicable.
