ABOUT THE ROLE:
Classrooms in the elementary grades at the ELC are blended, meaning that two grade levels are combined. In order to provide individualized support for 20-24 students, we have two adults guiding the group - a Lead Teacher who plans and facilitates the curriculum and an Assistant Teacher who provides vital support to ensure that all children's needs are met. On-Call substituteteachers fill in as assistant teachers when one member of the team is out sick or away dfor a planned absence. On-call substitutes do not have guaranteed days or a number of hours per week that they work but are part of a list of available and qualified substituteteachers to whom our teachers may reach out weeks or even months in advance or that morning for same day coverage as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Facilitate learning experiences as outlined in the substitute plans or as directed by the assistant teacher using a hands-on approach to learning. This might include leading small groups of children during literacy/math times or supervising the entire group during lunch or recess.
Interact with children in ways that respect each child's individuality and nourish growth in intellectual, socio-emotional, artistic, and physical domains.
Communicate questions, concerns, or feedback for families to the Assistant Teacher and Head of School. Share final notes at the end of the day with classroom's Lead Teacher so that they may address any questions/issues when they return.
Assist throughout the facility with the maintenance of orderliness and positive aesthetic. This may include washing classroom dishes/art materials, tidying the classroom environment, and/or running laundry as directed by the assistant teacher.
Maintain and nurture positive space and effective relationships with children, teachers and visitors of the Early Learning Community.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 18 years old.
Must be enrolled in the Department of Early Learning and Care's (DELC's) Central Background Registry.
Must have a minimum of 6 months working in a licensed group care environment with at least 10 toddler, preschool, or early elementary level.
Able to sit, bend and lift up to 50 pounds and move quickly around a classroom and playground.

Create a transitional treatment plan upon return to jail from Oregon State Hospital (OSH) for community treatment needs. * Maintain contact with OSH Liaison to assist with discharge planning and developing community linkages for persons deemed unfit to proceed and receiving treatment at OSH. Develop treatment alternatives to OSH for this caseload. Evaluate appropriateness for community diversion and conduct risks assessments as necessary. Provide education and training to enable individuals to reach standard for fit to proceed. Collaborate with OSH liaison to establish financial resources and entitlements for discharge to the community and to assure completion of referral information for community placement.
* Develop diversion plans with provider community. Develop and maintain relationships with community treatment providers. Work collaboratively within MCHHS and county residential system to develop placements. Interface with jail and hospital staff in those facilities. Monitor resources to assure they are developed and maintained in the community for the success of the client. May transport clients to appointments as needed. Arrange intake appointment at community provider.
Miscellaneous
* Provide advocacy for client rights, ethical consideration, needs for service and least restrictive care/intervention.
* Respond to requests for information regarding clients not currently in the CSS, requiring a thorough knowledge of laws governing the release of confidential information.

In consultation with the Education Supervisor, develops own professional work goals and training plan.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to work with young children in an accepting, positive manner. Must be able to work as a team with educational staff. Ability to work with low-income families. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
