ACT/SAT Tutor & School Programs Teacher (2025-26)
Substitute Teacher Job 7 miles from Hanover Park
The Position: ACT/SAT Tutor & School Programs Teacher (Part-Time)
Compensation: $30/hour for 1-on-1 tutoring; $47/hour for classroom instruction
Academic Approach is firmly committed to creating a diverse workplace and is proud to provide equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender identity and/or expression, sexual orientation, ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, genetics, marital status, amnesty status, or veteran status. Applicants of diverse backgrounds, skillsets, and experiences are especially encouraged to apply.
About Academic Approach:
Academic Approach began with a focused mission: to mentor students while building their key academic skills. Join our team of dedicated educators to deliver rewarding, highly personalized, high-impact 1-on-1 and classroom course instruction.
About the Role:
While many of our 1-on-1 tutoring students and school partners prefer to work virtually, we are currently looking exclusively for candidates who are willing to tutor in-person at our Lincoln Park and/or Winnetka offices and/or teach in-person on the campuses of our partner schools. Please note that this is not a full-time position, and it will not be a good fit for those seeking full-time work; while average hours per week vary drastically from instructor to instructor, most of our instructors average 8-12 instructional hours per week.
At this juncture, we are beginning to look for new tutors/teachers to add to our team for the 2025-26 school year. Training will most likely not occur until August. If you are unable to commit to at least one full school year, we kindly ask that you not apply.
About our Content Quiz:
Please note that--due to the nature of this tutor/instructor position--all candidates will need to complete a content quiz that includes English and math questions prior to being considered for an interview. This (untimed) quiz should take approximately 30-45 mins to complete.
About our Training:
We believe strongly in our robust tutor training. Our training modules are each a combination of synchronous sessions with a trainer and asynchronous work. We identify each candidate's best pathway through our trainings and send personalized invitations to training that include more details. All trainings are paid.
A Successful Academic Approach Tutor & School Programs Teacher:
Prioritizes their students, leading with curiosity, compassion, and enthusiasm for their success.
Maintains a growth mindset, incorporating the instructional best practices from extensive training and coaching to lead their students to success.
Consistently maintains professionalism in all facets of the role, actively collaborating with students, clients, and colleagues in pursuit of program success.
What we offer:
Competitive pay, starting at $30/hr for 1-on-1 tutoring and $47/hr for classroom teaching with potential for increases bi-annually based on performance. Compensation for tutoring at our Winnetka office currently starts at $45/hour.
Please note that this compensation is specifically for instructional time only.
Flexibility in building your schedule while supporting the needs of our students.
Robust (paid) training.
Personalized coaching and development, support, and continuing education.
Exceptional proprietary curriculum and instructional materials.
Travel compensation for school programs that require a commute of at least 30 minutes and 15 miles.
Friendly, respectful, supportive culture focused on best supporting students.
Key responsibilities:
Deliver engaging specialized academic and test-prep instruction to high school (and some middle school) students across the Chicagoland area.
