TITLE: Substitute Teacher REPORTS TO: Principal JOB GOAL: To enable each child to pursue his education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of his/her regular teacher. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Reports to the building principal (school secretary) upon arrival at the school building. Reviews with the principal or department head all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day. Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which he is assigned. Teaches the lesson outlined and described in the Substitute's Teacher's Guide as prepared by the absent teacher. Consults with the building principal or department head before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the Substitute Teacher's Handbook. Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and during lunch and recess periods. Reports in writing, on the form provided by the school secretary, on the day's activities at the conclusion of each teaching day. Follows all policies, rules and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates. Any other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or superintendent. Communicating closely with DHHR case managers to provide updates and relay important behavioral information regarding clients. Maintaining well-ordered client records with chronological intervention notes. Participating in Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings as an advocate for respectful communication as well as fair and reasonable recommendations. Testifying in court regarding client behavior, compliance and progress. Discharging cases from service promptly after case closure. Attending Staff meetings and trainings as mandated. Participating in monthly Clinical Supervision. Working to continuously improve practice and intervention skills, as well as professional and administrative competencies. Direct group activities of students as assigned; assist in monitoring lunchroom and playground activities as assigned; assist in emergency drills, assemblies, play periods and field trips. Participate in meetings and in-service training programs as assigned. Maintains good rapport with students, parents, staff and other professionals. Obtain and maintain First-Aid and CPR certification with re-certification as established within guidelines. Confer, as needed, with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs. Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and regulations. Obtain and maintain CDL driver's license and maintain bus route as driver or bus monitor Other duties as assigned by supervisor. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or G.E.D. Must satisfactorily complete the Kentucky Paraeducator Assessment or have the equivalent of 2 years college experience.
