Position Overview
Working from a secure and distraction-free home office, substituteteachers virtually support the learning program for students in grades 9-12 at Idaho Home Learning Academy High School. Using telephone, internet, and various curriculum tools, substituteteachers consult regularly with students, parents, and school personnel to ensure each student receives quality instruction. Substituteteachers serve as teacher of record during short or long-term absences, with assignments ranging from a few hours to several weeks. The average assignment length is one week.

Responsibilities When On Assignment
Be available to students, parents, and school staff during any required meetings for the position in which you are subbing. Teachers are generally available for five hours, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Mountain Time. Individuals substituting for the special education department may be needed for longer timeframes.
Communicate regularly with parents, students, and teachers to answer questions, provide feedback on student work, and to monitor assignment completion.
Provide at least one live office hour through Zoom each week to provide student support.
Answer all emails and messages sent directly through Schoology in 24 hours.
Grade all student submissions in 72 hours.
Provide support to students through both synchronous and asynchronous methods if necessary.
Post weekly updates on Mondays by noon.
Follow the teacher's substitute directions on implementing all required student accommodations.
Compensation & Other Details
Pay rate: $22/hour
Daily timesheet submission is required while on assignment. If subbing for several days, individuals may make arrangements to report at the end of the week. Late timesheet submissions cannot be processed.
Applicants may also be given the option to substitute for the K-8 program or the special education department.
This is a non-contracted position; benefits are not included

PURPOSE
A SubstituteTeacher is to support the delivery of instruction of the students of West Ada School District by replacing teachers and/or paraprofessionals in the classrooms when they are not available.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
To support student learning by providing instruction and classroom management in the absence of the regular teacher and/or paraprofessional.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Report to the building secretary at the beginning of the day.
· Review the information in the sub folders provided by the office and absent teacher for all plans and schedules to be followed during the instructional day.
· Maintain as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.
· Instruct students by following the plan left by the absent teacher. This instruction may include lecture, demonstration, discussions, projects, practical activities, experiments, assignments and other methods.
· Consult as appropriate with the building principal administration or department head before initiating any instruction or other procedures not specified in the absent teacher's plans.
· Supervise students and assist in upholding and enforcing all policies, procedures and rules of the district and school.
· Follow the absent teacher's rules for classroom management and discipline, observe student conduct and maintain classroom order and discipline, address observed inappropriate student conduct both within the classroom and in other school settings and confer with the administration in order to resolve inappropriate student conduct.
· Perform all other duties that are the responsibility of the absent teacher or paraprofessional, including, but not limited to, recess and lunch duty.
· Learn and effectively use classroom technology tools, including logging in to all necessary district systems and platforms, to support instructional activities and student engagement during the substitute teaching period.

Schedule

Full-time Workload

When possible, the student to teacher ratio should be approximately 150-180 to one. It is recommended that there be no more than thirty-five students per class.

Student teachers are hired to teach one or two seminary classes in a local seminary. Student teachers are paid for teaching time, and for preparation and administrative time. The typical student teacher assignment is a 15-20 hour per week position.

During this time, student teachers continue the training process and are assessed and evaluated throughout as they are considered for employment. Decisions about full-time employment are made by the administration of Seminaries and Institutes in Salt Lake City. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The overall responsibility of this position has several components: plans and implements an instructional program that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students, consistent with the District's approved curriculum and teaching methodology; guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals, and in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects by establishing and maintaining classroom lesson plans as well as substitute lesson plans. To aid in the evaluation of student needs, the teacher serves as a member of the Building Study Team in diagnosing specific learning needs of students and prescribing special programming, identifying the educational, social and developmental needs of students, participating in Special Education or related team meetings as requested.
Through communication and collaboration with colleagues, students and parent/guardians on a regular basis, the teacher actively listens in order to address needs of students, is patient in dealing with students with differing abilities, cultures, etc., and participates in parent-teacher conferences, making oneself available to communicate with parents/guardians regarding student related issues. In supervising students, the teacher assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and Board Policy; establishes rules for classroom discipline; observes student conduct and maintains classroom order and discipline; addresses observed inappropriate student conduct both within the classroom and in other school settings; and will confer with parents, guardians, other teachers, counselors and administrators in order to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems. Teaching Seminary

2. Participate in a brief (3-4 days) teaching practicum local seminary.
3. Student Teach. Student teachers are selected from successful practicum participants. There are more practicum participants than there are student teacher openings in any given term.
Student teachers are hired to teach one or two seminary classes in a local seminary. Student teachers are paid for teaching time, and for preparation and administrative time. The typical student teacher assignment is a 15-20 hour per week position.
The student teacher experience can last from one semester/trimester up to a full high school academic year, and in some cases even longer. During this time, student teachers continue the training process and are assessed and evaluated throughout as they are considered for employment. Decisions about full-time employment are made by the administration of Seminaries and Institutes in Salt Lake City. Decisions about part-time employment are made by local S&I administrators and depend on current demand. There are always more student teachers than there are openings in any given year.

When possible, the student to teacher ratio should be approximately 150-180 to one. It is recommended that there be no more than thirty-five students per class.
